I am exploring options to upgrade the brakes on my 1996 VFR.

Does any one have any suggestions??

    Thanks,

I'm fairly certain that VTR forks are a drop-in replacement. you can also swap out the complete front end to either RC-51 or CBR 929/954 forks. That is not just a fork tube swap like the VTR is, for the CBR swap you also have to change out the triple trees, as well as make a few other changes. All in all, it's fairly easy to do.

The VTR forks or lowers would definatly be an upgrade if you would want to spend the bucks. - I had a 4th gen - I think first save your bucks and try some better brake pads. If that isnt good enuff - you can use up the pads to decide, then consider if you want to delve into the more major mods. The plus is that the parts go together fairly simple - Honda stuff is pretty interchangable for the same fork tube size. (41mm)
