Hi all I hope all is well. I have many bikes and ride a lot typically 20 to 25k miles a year. Just bought a 2008 VFR800 ABS for my wife today. She was struggling with her ST1100 when standing still and there were many minor tip overs with the 700 plus pound beast. Although once rolling she rides very well for a new rider. About 7 or 8k miles under her belt.

So the VFR is really nice I rode it home and I am impressed by the bike. 15k miles on the bike and came with Honda top and side cases. This will work well for all of her stuff. LOL

I have not owned one of these before so input (oh boy am I opening up a door) as to some of the first things that I should take a look at for any known issues. The bike is in very good condition, new rubber, brakes, oil, etc.

    Thanks and take care.

Hello and welcome to the madness. My greeters have been slackin' as of late, so I have to step in to ensure you feel all warm and fuzzy.

That is a good amount of miles a year. I was putting that on each year up to about 1 year ago when I moved closer to work....so it was mostly commuting.

A 2008 is already past the wiring harness recall years (2002 to 2005), so you are good with that. I would just look at her like you would any other bike at this point. It is not "needed" per se, but your girl could benefit from a Power Commander, along with o2 eliminators, maybe a re-sprung and valved fork. Some people perform the pair/valve mod, but it is in the eye of the beholder if that is worth the time and effort. Other than that, just look at flushing fluids, checking chain wear, tire wear, etc...

Me? I would :xxx::bootyshake2: that little ho and ride her like that 25 cent mechanized horsey outside of Wally World...

    Cheers,

    :vtr2:

There is not a lot of maintenance history on this bike, so the question always is what about the valve check for these. My ST's are fairly straight forward to do but this is really new to me. Geez, computers, FI, ABS, Vtec, etc. I have moved to the 21st century. I am used to working with stone knives and bear skins.

Do these VFR's require the standard 16k valve check up or what is the rule of thumb.

    Is that you cavey?

Yeah, just the normal 16k boss. Due to the viffer motors having spot on valve spec accuracy for the most part (more so the pre-vtec gear-driven cams), many owners push past the 16K mark to 32K. Or you could be like me and have a valve check at 20k and then run it for another 105k without any more valve checks.....oops...but then again, I do own the fastest, meanest, most reliable VFR ever made....the 1998 5th gen....in red of course....red alone is good for another 25HP.

Your stone tools and bear skins should work just fine for the viffer as you maintain her in your casa de cave. Cheers cavey!

Welcome to The World Grabcon! Since your new to forums, that is probably why you are unaware that on your introductory post you're supposed to post a picture of your bike (Wife's bike in this case).

    Cheers!

The silver one looks like one of the bikes from Mad Max! Very nice looking vehicles, you keep them very clean.

The Mad Max bike was a KZ 1000 I think, not a Honda. But yes very similar. Although I did not build it to match that MM bike.

Yea she is really excited, but she feels like she has failed on the ST. Which she has not. She is a great rider and a better Pillion. I would put her up against anyone on the back. She lets me scrape pegs on my ST1100. She has gotten many compliments on her riding and pillion skills.

We will see what tomorrow holds. I is her maiden voyage day on the VFR.

Both gorgeous but that K is especially nice. If you were a little closer it might find it's way in to my garage.

Duccmann The bride is slightly vertically challenged 5'4". The big thing is the 200 plus pound different from the ST to the VFR. Plus the VFR is narrower at the seat allowing more leg to the ground.

VFRcapn, You know if there is a will there is a way. Orange is a great color.
