Just installing a new volt meter, and fuse block. I was planning to run the volt meter directly to the battery but noticed it only had about 18" of wire, wondered if it's intended to hook up to the headlights or somewhere up front. Ironically the wires that came attached to the fuse block are about 5ft and I only needed 6".

IMHO - the best way for a voltmeter hookup is direct to the battery with a switch and fuse on the POS side. That way you can hit the switch and check the battery before you click the key on and fire it up . --- On 5th gen its rather simple to run any wires you need to the battey down the left side of the bike, right on top of the main harness.

Some guys will say to install a relay in the circuit and power off the tail light, but with that you lose the pre ride unloaded battery check. I originally had it set up that way and didnt care for it, so I dumped it.
