M5 Metzler tires 180 on a back of a vfr 800 don't last long at all, on a 600 I bet they would last a bit more, I need a special tire that won't freeze up in cold-there aren't many of them-hit 32 degrees and most bike tires are near frozen. I will have to think about this for a while. Maybe I am better off just buying snow tires for my car this year!

I like the vfr better than the car, I got the bike because it helped me get back into shape and it has done that-the shinko 2x does look good, the vfr is a great cold weather bike with radiators on the side giving off heat and the cat heats up the seat and I got heated grips and a ST windscreen. and abs brakes on my model. you need the best tires you can find if you want to ride in the winter.

no, you need offroad tires, at the very least, if you want to "ride in the winter"

and no, you in particular cannot ride in the winter.

To answer, my bike WAS a rwb. I changed it.

So to summarize, if you think you're gonna ride sub 32* and you're above say.... the middle of north carolina? you've another thing coming to you. and that thing is going to be a legitimate crash. not a drop.

I've rode in rain, and I've rode in hail, and crazy crosswinds that had me 20* leaned in a straight line, I've rode at 17* F with ice down in places. and I will tell you, pucker factor 9 rolling over 100yrd sheets of ice @ 40mph. Don't. be that guy.

I have rode in the winter before for 2 years on the r6 with new tires- and it was a lot of fun! I am setting up the vfr to do even better-run my Castrol 05-40 rt oil, just have to find the right tires-ice is the most fun LOL! But I won't risk the vfr if the roads aren't very clear and free of salt so I don't know how much riding I will do, but at least a little.

My front tire is still pretty good so I just get a back tire and the back one should be good for maybe another 1500 miles, PR 4 here I come-tire won't freeze till 23 degrees that at least 9 degrees better than most- I ride in winter when the cowards sit home. Geronimo

I have run Michelin Pilot Roads for some time now. I like to get lots of miles out of my tires. I generally get 10k out of a rear and a bit more out of the front.
They cost a little bit more, not much, but they are worth it. The PR 3ct are pretty good all weather tires.

Really. lets get a good look at your back tire, there slick?

I know you've leaned it all the way to the fairing 27 and a half times, but hows that tire looking, speed racer?

i took another look and the tires are about 60% done or maybe a little more. Perhaps I get 4500 miles out of them. I have to wonder how the PR ride with the hard rubber, if guess there is no easy answer with tires-my R6 didn't eat up a back tire this fast. I have to rethink all this tire stuff- sometimes I try too hard-"Anything goes wrong BB did it"!

I think it's understood, that in all reality you have OCD. Or some other compulsive disorder that causes you to obsess over trivial things. Just ride the bike dude. Leave well enough alone and quit plaguing the forums.

to the greatnobody, what is more important than tires on any motorcycle? Maybe brakes. that's it
so figuring out how to keep tread on the back tire just might be a good idea? NObody should ride with racing slicks for tread. The front is ok with sport tire, the rear is not. only good solution a hard rubber in the middle tire tread. You are lucky someone likes to point out this fact on the vfr 800.:mechanic::baby:
