Super Long lasting tires?

I looked at my rear tire m5 and 2600 miles-it looks like its gone in another 1000 miles that's stinky life for sure. What's a long lasting cheap tire? :blah::lever::bluesbros::banana: the rear tire just works too hard-would a 190 rear last longer?

 

Here you go. Should last about 9-10K miles. http://www.shinkotireusa.com/tire/009-raven Or PR4. I got about 10K out of my PR3 rear tire. Front's still going strong. A 190 will make your bike turn like a locomotive. However, with your 1.5 gallon tank fills you should get 20K out of them, as you'll be spending so much time at the gas station or with your bike resting comfortably on it's side.

I would also recommend regular air changes, to ensure it doesn't go stale and affect your tire pressure. Fresh air is not just good for your lungs. Be sure to fully wash them before installation and then take some sandpaper to them to scrub them in. Safety first. I have heard that rapid acceleration and high road temperatures can speed wear, so be sure to start in third gear on hot days and be sure to take regular breaks to allow the tires to fully reduce in temp. Also, take off your exhaust and just run it without them, so you reduce the weight over the back tire.

My brother has a Harley Fat boy that he rides hard, canyons, fast acceleration etc and they last a long time. My brother has been riding a LONG time and while yes, he has a Harley, he runs it hard in canyons and I ran Tail of the Dragon with him and I can verify. That is a heavy ass bike that will smoke the back tire and leave black streaks at stop lights.

Sarcasm aside from my post above, I just thought I would add in some randomness similar to other threads you have posted.

 

If he fills the tyres with helium would that not further reduce the weight of the bike? The only problem I see is that this will make the bike bottom light and could upset his delicate state of balance. This condition could be corrected by filling the non-used portion of the fuel tank with hydrogen. Hydrogen being the lightest of the elements should offset the lightning effects of the helium filled tyres. I see zero problems with adding hydrogen to the fuel tank. The explosive nature of hydrogen is simply propaganda created by the fledgling airline industry in the 1930s to kill the airship industry.

Well, if this holds true about helium, should he try filling the tires with pressurized water to lower his center of gravity? Hmmm, maybe I am onto something here...

I thought you said m5 metzelers were the best tire for the vfr? Just get another set.

 

m5 are good but don't seem to last to long and I got the set for $200, can't do that anymore. I don't ride at M5 level either so kind of a waste for me.

 

Michelin gazelle m62's look pretty good, and then you can buy the Honda spree you should probably be riding.

I actually need a rain tire -the PR4 might be the best and I should get 10,000+ ,but I look at the metzler z8 too-its going to get cold the shinkos are too hard for cold.

 

PR 4 rated for cold down to 23 degrees-this is a big deal, Z8 metzler isn't, or pr3 or any other long lasting tire. I rode all winter on my r6-fell down on ice but its light just picked it up and ride any way-snow mobile.

it's shinko's first dual compound tire, and I'm currently using it. got about 2200 miles on them so far, and the back tire is just now, beginning to have a flatspot from the slab. that was after back to back 700 mile days. and it still sticks like glue out at the edges. those first 1000 miles were unbelievably good. WOT leaned over, no issues. no spinning tire, no nothing.

I literally took em, had em mounted, went to the curves, and pounded the chicken strips off, and not one slip. Shinko seems to be doing things correctly these days.

I've heard and gotten mixed reviews from the 009 Raven, from "wonderful" to "so so, great price tho" to tread delamination, to poor grip, ect, I've owned a set, on my first bike, and they were -ok-. They really DON'T have a profile that lends well to being leaned over, and that's why I ditched their use. if you use the regular verge, I'm pretty sure it's the raven's compound, in a different shape and tread. because I ran a set of Those on the same bike, and it handled way different/better with the same general mileage/wear.

The 2X however, is outstanding, so far. I cannot in good faith recommend a different tire if you're on a budget, and you want a damn good tire.

Turns out to be 220 a set, roughly.

Absolutely worth the 20 bucks extra.

Lose weight! I used metzelers on the cruiser bike I used to have. Got 10K miles+ out of them, good grip even in the rain.

 

Very nice looking paint job there sir!! If you're not on a R/W/B that's a nice looking compromise.
