    That is not really that funny because I did try that. I thought it was a quite reasonable thing to do. Cept, I forgot where I stored that too.

    I recently put new chain and sprockets on, and remember distinctly taking those bolts out and put them back, because there were three long ones and one shorter, not ones to easily rattle loose and come out, especially with your leg there while riding, but then you put a lot of miles on.

    Did you last do the sprocket and chain swap on your own Randy, or did you have them done at a shop somewhere. If they were done by a dealer, maybe they forgot to put them back in. I think the stator on your bike Randy is on the same side as the sprocket cover but I can't see why they would have to take the sprocket cover bolts out to remove the stator cover. Check the manual and see if it is required for the stator cover removal. Maybe the mechanic that did the stator started taking the wrong parts off cause the work order said stator replace and he thought it said "sprocket replace". ??????

    Looks as though the bolts in question are only holding the sprocket cover itself but with them missing, the extra strain from the sprocket cover vibrating might be placed on the bolts retaining the clutch slave cylinder. Might want to get them replaced sooner than later.

    It is only a cheap steel cover, I bet you could just leave it off and nothing would happen, but it might keep some rain out

    Except for the fact that the clutch slave cylinder bolts to the top of that "Cheap Steel Cover". Who needs a clutch slave cylinder. Really, ................. Anyone???

    Probably keeps your pant leg away from the gear and chain too. I think that passes the test of importance too. Besides, if it did not serve a purpose, Hinda would not have engineered the bike to have one.

    And for Zoom-zoom. It was me who did the last chain and sprocket change. Was quite proud of myself. Maybe I was premature on that point.

    I was looking at how hard its to change a chain and its not as easy as I first thought- looks like a lot of little parts have to be taken off to get at the front chain sprocket. I like to watch someone change out a chain before I screw it up, even though I have done a chain kit before. I would guess you didn't tighten up those bolts right-blue Loctite should be used there for sure. your right about the cover-I was not going to full with it.

    If you blokes are having trouble changing a chain and sprocket on a Honda, don't ever try changing on on an old Pommie bike

    What kind of piece of junk is a pommie bike? My chain works fine. My oil change worked out great-it started up faster and I got the oil level right this time. Honda's are very complicated machine's but most things are not too hard to fix. it does look like Honda threw a monkey wrench in the front sprocket. I don't want to bother fixing things when I could be riding unless I really have too.

    If you have the manual or Hanes, and the proper tools, chain and sprocket change Really is not difficult. But I totally agree that to watch someone in person change them does make a big difference. Failing that, youtube will have something.

    You mean the ones with the countershaft sprocket between the primary drive chain enclosure and clutch, and the transmission? I think that was one of the reasons I always sold my bikes before I had to change the countershaft sprocket. Changed a lot of chains, but no countershaft sprockets.

    SOW is a DIY version of an early AI program called Eliza. A typical conversation:

    > Hello. My name is Eliza. How may I help you?
    * my motorcycle is broken
    > Ahh. Please continue...
    * it needs a new chain
    > Say, do you have any psychological problems?
    * yes
    > Are you Sure?
    * yes
    > Do you expect a different answer by repeating yourself?
    * my name is son of wolf
    > Names don't interest me.
    * I have frame sliders
    > I see.
    * everyone should have frame sliders
    > Say, do you have any psychological problems?
    * yes
    > I understand.

    You have seen it all before Billy and I like the way you think. As for Pommie bikes, take off the footpeg, then the outer primary case, then remove the alternator,clutch and primary chain, then remove the inner primary case so you can get to the nut that holds the gearbox sprocket on, quite simple really, then you start putting it all back together and hope the primary case holds at least some of the oil you put in it from spewing onto the ground
