I recently flew from the Seattle area to Texas to link up with a brother and ride the desert roads in western Texas (on BMWs).
Here is my trip report: https://sites.google.com/site/kurtfriedrich/austintripaug21-aug25-2014

The only relevance this has to this forum is, before this trip, if someone suggested I ride in the Texas desert in August I would have just laughed at them.

Well, I am now a believer, we had a great trip. We did start each day about 5:30 am to get in some pleasant riding and so we could be done by 2 or 3 pm.
I wore full boots, full helmet, and mesh pants and jacket. I did not use a water vest, as I hate them. We stopped about every hour to drink something.

If you get the chance to ride thru Big Bend Nat Park, even in August, I suggest you do it.

I hope to be riding through Texas Juneish 2016. Right after R3 if Reg has not tired of being the gracious host by then. I doubt that I will be doing any desert roads on the VFR though. DOH! I mentioned VFR. Ruined the thread already

The desert roads were state highways if we go by the guy's map. Parts of West Texas have been gentrified.

Yep, all state, US, or park roads. All road surfaces were great.

I take that back then. Never been to the Great State of Texas. Looking forward to it.

Before you come to West Texas, bone up on the religion. Football.
