That's how I know my 6th gen isn't for me. Generally speaking, I hold onto things forever. My car has been paid off for years now. I don't buy clothes until they are full of holes. I still have a Dreamcast! My computer is from 2008, my laptops are from 2007, and my TV is at least 5 years old. My 6th gen? Got it in April and have only made a few payments on it yet I know I want it gone.

    *sigh* first work problems indeed!

Very sensible move. I have a 5th gen in my garage, too. But I bought the ST1300 at a great price new, in December 2010, even though I had to ride it back from Arkansas to Northern CA. (maybe that was part of the attraction....) And this was after lusting after the VFR1200 and K1600 for most of a year... don't regret the ST1300 at all.

But in late June this year I came across a great deal on a 1200 about 100 miles from home, and after researching what could be done to "tune it up", I got my GF to drive me to Roseville, and bought the big VFR- no regrets.

Is it just G.A.S.? (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) Mmmmm, hard to give a fully honest answer... I have similar problems with guitars, but then they cost less, and I can easily point to, "well, this one sounds and plays right for this kind of music - this one for this other stuff I want to pay a certain way!"

If I could only keep one of my current bikes, it would be the ST1300- it's more practical, and I have some very specific plans for it in the next few years. But the big VFR is without doubt my favorite performance/hooligan bike- I've seen quite a few in Europe, and never seen one on the road in Northern CA. Mine is getting more so as I tweak it up- not sure just how far I'll go after the LeoVince exhaust- maybe a PCV five and cat bypass. It has the ergos I can just live with after a few tweaks, unlike the hard core bikes, and has a fantastic power curve and remarkable feel- it's a hoot!

I suppose with more experience and different targets, a person might want another bike. Funniest thing that happened to me this week, was parking at Starbucks early this AM, next to an F6B (yes, they really are about a block long...), and when the owner of the F6B went out, he actually did a double take at the VFR, and walked around it twice in a couple of minutes, looking it over.

You just don't see them around here. Valkyries and F6B are not commonplace compared with Harley's around here, but you do see a number of them. OTOH, it's hard for me to imagine them fitting into my riding preferences... but never say never, I guess...

Only bike I can imagine wanting right now is not available in the US, the VFR1200X Crosstour. I can imagine the riding position and the engine working very well for certain kinds of back country riding.

If this was available and I could only have one bike, it would likely be this. Maybe. But then, I still don't think it would provide the same comfort and capability riding at 30 degrees F that the ST does. But I'd still like one.... (let's not even bring up the KT1600, OK? Good thing both the price and some reliability issues have me turned off on that....)

I wonder, since they have the same frame, engine, and rear swing arm, if you could build a parts been VFR1200X starting with a normal VFR1200F. Where to get the parts is the issue....

I tend to ride with cruiser guys. I feel safer because I live on metro NY and it's crazy here. So being in a pack of responsible older guys works. Just not great on a vfr. They are always going 10-20 mph slower. Or I feel like I'm arriving at places with haunched shoulders wondering if swapping out the gen-mar risers for heli bars would really make that much of a difference.

Eventually I wound up with 2 grand extra (I thought) and picked up a Shadow 1100.

At first I felt like a badass. Hangin back in the mini apes... Then I put my girl on the back- she said she never used the back rest. And I felt like a sitting duck unable to maneuver worth a damn.

So now I'm thinking I can't sell the vfr... Especially since it couldn't even hit the reserve on eBay of 3300 and it's farkled to the moon.

So in the spring I'll prob sell both bikes and get an FJR or ST1300. Even though I don't want to.

    Preaching to the choir OP!!

Can you scare up $3000 or so? If you can, you can find a lot of pre-owned motorcycles. I did the same thing and recently purchased a 1998 Ducati 748 for fun. I may sell it later and buy something else.

So many motorcycles, so little time . . .

I decided to go with the ST1300 because I didn't wanna spend the cash on a Goldwing right now
and I wanted a bike that was big enough for my wife and I as we are not tiny little people any more
and I hope to ride it across the county.
Can you do this on a VFR? YES but this will be much more comfortable for two up riding
PLUS the ST is built around a V4 power plant and it a VERY agile beast for its size
This one is a 2009 and it only had 3990 miles on it

Nice ride. I rented one in Las Vegas on a business trip. Had a day off and rode all through the mountains and Lake Meade. Comfortable, V4 ran well and it had an electric wind screen that I found very useful. Was very top heavy though. I never understood why Honda never put that same wind screen on the Goldwing.

Oh I see. That makes perfect sense.
It's definitely much more comfortable riding 2 up. It looks very nice and low mileage.

Let us know what you think after you put some miles on it...

yeah I just got her two nights ago but that windshield is amazing you can raise it and lower to to redirect the wind
I was running it low in town to cool off then raised it up on the highway
I have a trunk on order with the light kit and a back rest then wifey will be happy
as we are over 500 pounds combined I never rode her on the VFR but she sees how much fun I am having and wants to ride
so I bought her a bike and then this Big ass machine for us to both tour on

its much more like a sport bike then you would think
