So... my friend, his wife, my wife wife and I left friday night for a 7 hour drive trailering the bikes from the Savannah GA area to the Deals gap hotel right at the tail. Got there at midnight and hopped in the sack excited for the next days rides.

My wife had torn her meniscus last week so she was in a stabilization brake all week. i was going to cancel the trip but she would not let me.

Saturday morning we hop up, get breakfast and get ready for a ride. My wife being the hard ass that she is jumped on the bike in pain and toughed it out. Starting up the dragon we fell in behind an ST1300 and Harley street glide with some very good canadian riders on board. It made for an interesting run. We continued on for about a 200 mile loop around through marysville, and then on to cherokee were we stopped to take it all in.

My wife began to hurt so i cut some time off and ran the moonshiner 28 route back to the hotel. We hung out and met quite a few people and had a good time.

Sunday morning we decided that we were going to make another run of the dragon down and back with the wifes and then a run by ourselves. With the exception of a groupe of asshats running 11mph, literally, for around 3 miles and not letting anyone pass. it was a good run.

I got a ton of compliments on the bike and saw a few other VFRs there/

Hopped in the truck and came home after that.

    Here are some shots.

I was looking at the map and Deal's Gap is only 260 some miles from Leeds Alabama where Barber Vintage days is being held. I told this to my wife this and she rolled her eyes. "Only 260 miles" she said but as I pointed out, it is a damn site closer than where I am right now! I could cut out Sunday at Barber and head up to the Dragon. And then rush back happy having check two items off my bucket list.

Where are you located f3? Give a shout when you are heading back to the gap. If I can make it beers are on me after, before you deploy. A VFR weekend sounds good.

I'd be more worried (not really) about the GoldWing rider who hangs out there Yellowwolf (I think) - he's scary fast.... he puts almost all of the squiddies to shame.

I'm planning a two week trip in early October. Either Utah & Northern Cali or to the Ozarks & on to NC. How is the weather there in October? Will leaves on the road be an issue?

    Thanks!

You are more likely to be hit by a Harley. The skill level of the average Harley rider there is minimal. I go every year and see at least one Harley in a ditch. I go in September when the kids are in school, and the amount of traffic dies down. Go during the week and you'll have a good run. Weekends it's just Harleys wobbling through.

Nice photos! Next time check out this, much much better than Deals. Soon it too with get over used and cops all over the place so do it soon. There are a ton of good rides in that area. Glad you had fun. Your wife must be a tough girl to ride that much with a bum knee.
    http://www.cherohala.com/

And the Little River road at the top of the park. Once you do those you probably won't go back and "deal" with all the crap of Deals gap. Long ago before it became the "Dragon" it was fun on small 2 strokers like a RD, but big bikes all the really tight turns in 1st gear and a shit ton of ass hats has made it a place I avoid these days. So many much better roads with very little traffic and cops that you can ride. Have fun.

What Gator said. Deals Gap is nice to ride once and say you did it and to mark off your list, but there are soooo many roads in the area that are much more fun and less populated with morons. Cherohala is a fav. as well as 28, Blood Mountain, wolf pen gap, warwoman, etc, etc, etc. In that area, just pick a direction and go and you'll find great roads.
