    Hi guys,
Took the 85 VF700 out on a long ride through the country and twisties the other day. Engine ran pretty hot but nothing I was too concerned about. Close to home in low revs a squealing appeared to be coming from the engine, closer to right side.
Checked the oil, like an idiot I had lost some though a recent leak and was running very very low. This is pretty embarrassing.
Filled the oil up and it went away.
Have been riding (shorter trips) all week with no recurrence of the squeal.
Did a 20-30 minute highway trip this morning. Bike is performing great as usual, but pulled into town and the squeal returned, hard, at lower gear and revs.
I'm really hoping a bearing isn't on it's way to seizing, I'm waiting for a bud to pick me up.
It doesn't occur in neutral giving me some hope it's a clutch issue related to oiling?
    Where should I start?
    Concerned.

Hopefully it's part #24 that fits in to part #11 and holds the slave push rod. That little ball bearing, bearing has been know to do that. Otherwise it could be another ball bearing, bearing in the trans or on the output shaft. Can we say take the motor apart.

Engine bearings don't squeal when then go. Sometimes you don't even hear them until it goes BANG, crunch, puke.

    Ok, well that's somewhat relieving.
Something in there is definitely hurting bad. I think it's on the right side as that seemed to get more hot, and it seems like that's where the nasty noise (worse at low revs) is coming from. Weird thing is, bikes is still performing, just managed to limp home, it was normal at high revs and the noise came back at low. But bike ran fine.
Doe's this help narrow it down? I really don't think I can pull the engine anytime soon.
    Mike

Dudes, went through all this. Thought hope was lost, put her on center stand to pull the engine when I noticed something up with the rear wheel. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408306594.930189.jpg found this....... Nice gentle reminder to troubleshoot without jumping to conclusions and really listen to the problem.
Super stoked in not rebuilding the trans any time soon though!!!!

so, new wheel bearings are in your future? and I don't tell fortunes either, I read my fortune cookies but rarely eat them, and sometimes, I play the lottery numbers that are on them. I don't really play that much though. This sounds a little nutty duz'nt it?

Careful installing new bearings, nice to freeze them and heat your wheel with map gas and they should just fall in all sweet and chit. Removing, you could have a drift punch and bmfh, or a nice slide hammer with the appropriate collet to pull old one oot. Cheers sometimes I am :loco:
