    Aloha,

Been thinking of picking up another bike.
A 2004 VFR800 in matte black came up on the local C/L.

    Asking $3700.00
    32K miles.

    After market parts:

    P/C 3

    Two Brothers stainless

    Seargent seat

    New Mich Piolet 3s

    Carbon fiber levers and mirrors

K&N, snorkel mod, Zero gravity windscreen.

and a few other new parts.

looks good in the pics. set up a visit with owner.

told him I'm bringing my gear and $.

    What do you folks think?

    Mahalo.

I think it is a pretty good price! Those farkles would cost you quite a bit. Make sure you take a volt meter with you! Check the voltage at the battery. If it isn't 13.5-ish volts DC, either walk away or make him come down $200. That will cover the cost of the R/R or stator if one is bad.

seriously - TAKE A VOLT METER!

That is a good price for the bike when you factor in the extras and the fact that you are not in the mainland. Does "few other new parts" indicate that the bike had some damage to it previously?

Just curious, when you say Two Brothers stainless, do you mean just the slip on can, or does it have a full Two Brothers system? If its a full system, that's a sweet set up.

Aloha folks, thanks for the comments.

married- good idea on the multi-tester.

rollin- other new parts listed were new ebc pads, upgraded Blue low beams 8k(i don't know what it is)
    blue ice radiator fluid.

pilskin- sorry was up late. two bros are slip-ons alum . I think. Not full system.

I am just now too familiar with the 6G bikes.

Anything else I should look for. Harness recall? Don't know if ABS but didn't list it.

I though it was a pretty decent price considering the extras.

Bike owner manages a Motorcycle rental on the other side of the island.
He has listed it for at least 2 weeks. He came down in price.
He and his wife are moving and wanted to, but could not take the bike(according to him).

Have not seen the bike yet in person. Will be taking the jeep over with my G/F.

    Mahalo all.

It's not an ABS model. The front caliper would be gold and there would be an ABS ring on the rotor.

I only asked because my 2000 had a full 2 Brothers S/S system. No cat. 02 sensor bypass. It is a rare system, but if you did happen to have it, all the better. Easiest way to tell - look at the headers and there shouldn't be a spec of rust, and you're cat will have been removed.

Either way - its a good looking bike, and I would imagine on that on the Big Island that's a pretty good price. Isn't a gallon of milk and a dozen eggs about $87?

(pliskin) coconut milk and eggs, :)

will go and see the bike tomorrow.

we got a storm coming thursday (iselle and julio)

its about a hours ride from Waikoloa to Hilo over the saddle road.

packing rain gear and Plexus my shield.

I really want to see how it feels. Getting up there in age.

Want something relatiely comfortable. I have a seargent seat and helibars
on my VTR and it's a good ride. I am 5'10 and aboot 175 lbs. It seems more of an aggresive
position than my VTR. I like riding the 87 VFR, but a bit cramped in the leg room.

    Any feedback on ergonomics?

    Aloha,

Well finally picked up the bike. Had to arrange the pick-up between the double hurricane

threat that we were experiencing. Was following the weather on-line along with the P.O.

Saw a window between the storms to schedule the pick-up. Iselle and Julio, with Iselle leaving
and Julio arriving. Aboot a 1 hours ride from Waikoloa to Hilo.

Mahalo to all for their help in deciding to buy, and a big one to "marriedman" for the multitester
and price drop. Got a 13.6 volt initially on the test. Told the seller that might to be stator?
Told him that a stator was about $200 just for parts.

He said that he purchased a new battery about a year and a half ago and never had any problems.
He also said he never had the bike on a tender either since then. Would just startup no problem.

Asked him to call Local Honda dealer on the harness recall(was not done yet).

Got $200 off for possible electrical. After a "get to know each other fellow rider " he threw in a box full of
extra oil, filter, coolent(blue), cleaners and lube. He also gave me the stock seat and windshield
extra bulbs and original headlight bulbs, a mesh jacket and new gloves. In return he kept
his helmet(too big for me) hopefully as a remeberance of his stay on the Big Island, Hawaii.

We took a pic together with the bike and he was video taping my mounting and departure on the bike.

Much Aloha was felt in the transaction and we both parted happy. I got home and put it on the tender.

Charged light came on after a few minutes. Bike ran good coming back. PP3s worked well in the wet
twisties coming home. P/C 3 seemed to provide a smooth curve.

Too late for pics, but will try to upload tomorrow. Followed by an undressing and going over of connections
and stator, R/R, mechanical look over. Fluid changes including new filter(honda) provided by P.O. .

Girlfriend likes the "black bike". She says now you have red, white and black bikes.

Looking throught the receipts for aftermarket parts, about $1800 worth( including the 1-2 month old

    PP3s).

Just need to go over and see what else needs attention.

ducc, didn't receive the cowl with the seat, may have to look for it.

Scub, yeah, very happy with the bike. not much damage at my house fortunately.
but other parts of the island not so. Power lines down, some without power till next week.

What was nice was that even with the $200 off in price, when I went to pick up the bike
he had filled the tank and just lubed the chain for me.

I was surprised how much more comfortable the riding position was compared to my VTR
with sargent seat and helibars. I did notice a little less front fairing protection from the rain
with both bikes having a zero gravity double bubble. My VTR seems to have a wider front fairing.

Power delivery as expected was also different V-2 vs. V-4. Never really feel the vtec kick in.
Havent taken the VFR above 8k rpm yet so we'll see. Might be short of 10-12 hp more from 8k
to reline looking at a dyno chart?

Went on cycle-egro.com and it sort of showed the difference in comfort.
I guess the 6G will become my main rider. The other bikes are all on tenders now.

Need to look for a spanner for the swingarm/chain adjust. No tool kit included.

Glad to hear I helped! Though 13.6 at idle wouldn't have bothered me. 12.x then yeah I would have haggled harder.

Hmmm, you should be able to tell that. Did the coolant temp ever get over 150? The bike needs to be able to get warm/hot for the VTEC to kick in.

You did say it had a PC - right? If so, maybe the transition into the VTEC just isn't noticeable? Although you should hear it.

yes, temp did go to 210 at one point while climbing a steady grade
going over the saddle road. But it was raining and I was watching
the road and glancing at the gauges.

I did not notice any sudden surge in transition. Don't really know
what to listen for. I was trying to keep the rpms down to not have
the vtec kick in on the twisties to avoid possible surge while on the
wet twisties coming down the saddle. It was wet and foggy.

I did take her up to 8k occationally on the straights, but as you said
Pliskin maybe it was mapped as to have a smoother transition with
    the P/C 3.

It was a pleasant ride though, even in the rain. Very stable and smooth.

Have a feeling that my Superhawk will be spending more time on the tender.

married, average temp seemed to have been 170 while on the mountain road.
so I, pretty sure the vtec actuated. Just didn't notice any abrupt surge.
guess the P/C must be doing its job :)

    Mahalo guys :)

So, you have a Superhawk too? I can't decided which I like better, my VFR or my VTR. They are two different animals. My VFR is an all day rider. I can throw my bags on and hit the road and be comfortable all day. I can have fun when I get there. The Superhawk is just a beast. It is more fun initially than the Interceptor but it's not an all day affair. I look like an elephant on a bail of hay when I ride it but it is Oh so much fun.

I don't know about the 6th gen but my 5th gen just drives me nuts with the temperature gauge. There is nothing wrong with the cooling system (I checked) but I have seen temps as high as 234 and normal is 180 or 190 at cruise. I am thinking about doing the Superhawk fan mod.
