    Hi there

Well, i have just sold my fz6 (VTR before that but the juice and range on that was killing me) and am buying a 2007 VFR with 6000miles on the clock.(i'm buying it from a guy in about 2000km away so am basing purchase on pics and had a mate go round and hear it run)
Looks to be good but what should i look for...

Oh, he is the owner from new, but he said he never dropped it but had the fairing resprayed as the kids had scratched it.My mate says he could see no sign of it being dropped.

I heard and read about the REG/REC problem and was wondering in the interest of hassle free riding if i should swop it out asap for the YAMAHA reg/rec or will i have a few miles to go.
Also the VFRness, should i do this for clear roads?

Any tips info i should be aware about?

Throw any info you like at me, I'm here to learn about it all.

    Fairly mechanically minded, i' busy restoring 3 cb750's (a 1968/1972 and a 1978f)
(can send you pics if wanted)

    All info is appreciated.
    thanks
    Thor

Edit/:i have also been reading as much as i can on the site about the electrical gremlins.

I have ordered a small LCD voltmeter and ammeter, for preemptive purposes.

Welcome! Jury is still out on the Gen 6 REG/REC. Some will tell you to replace it ASAP or have a backup. Others will say the issue is on earlier models including early Gen 6's. Later models 06-up the REG/REC failures aren't as common. Many threads here on the subject. Here's a recent one to check out; I thought they fixed this crap. '07 electrical crap

Your idea of a voltmeter is good piece of mind. Personally my 07 has been bullet proof.

The jury should be hung as in with a rope just in case there might be some confusion.

Somebody famous once said, "there are two kinds of riders, those who have gone down and those who are going to go down. Do not, as above, read into this.

There are two kinds of VFR riders. Those who have had R/Rs that crap oot and those whose R/Rs are gonna crap oot.

I could become famous for saying this but unfortunately most dudes that have VFRs already know this.

I'm not sure if the 6th gen has the same R/R problem as the 5th, but if it does, have a look HERE. The problem seems to be in the connector between the R/R, not in the R/R.

    Cheers Guys

Yip, going to be looking for the Yammie reg/rec asap.

Some pics of various projects I'm busy with... its why i never got any money.
Gold wing is a piece of rubbish i have had endless troubles with her including blowing the stator (wires melted together ) but reading the posts i see im in good company:stung:
I had high ideas of the girlfriend and i trundling through the country on her, but after all the hassles the wing has given me and me realizing i'm not dead yet.... im going to sell the wing.

Some of the recent bikes i've had/have
VTR was a great bike (not on my wrists) but she tended to drink fuel , 160km on a tank was just too much, heavier than my car
FZ6 fantastic bike, a bit budget on the twisties but nice... oh and not a Honda:)
Cb's... No idea at all, probably because i understand them and how they work
BMw R25/3 Just beautiful, even if she never runs she can stand in the lounge looking good... my trophy wife bike

Sorry if there is a picture limit

Cb's are a passion but they are going to be a long time in the works.

    :welcome: to the madness
The model year in the picture seem to be 2006 in the U.S of A
The tires are OEM (7 years old) :jaw: need to be replace ASAP
With 6k miles she is still cherry :thumb:
I would not worry aboout the electrical at thios point. Good to open the fairing and check all the connectors.
If it the right price go for it......

    Cheers

    2006? How do you know?
    Not doubting, genuinely curious..?
I know the clear indicators came out in 06 and the tach white surround and the VTEC remap, but what else?

Tires. good point!.. will check as soon as i see her. Could he have done 6k miles on tires with that much tread still left?
I believe there is some numbers on the tires that say when they were manufactured.

Price is good for here... bout 4500$?

    Thanks

Looks very clean and well taken care of.
Question: what is attached to the swing arm by the rear sprocket?

Tax disk. I will move it somewhere more suitable when i finally get her, courier says 2 weeks ...awaiting with baited breath.
A couple of things sold me( i normally wouldn't touch a bike without seeing riding it first)
    1. Condition, looks to be well kept
    2. condition of his house, neat n squared away, so I'm hoping he was about the bike
    3. he called it his baby.
    4. friend confirmed it runs beautifully
    5. VFR with 11000 km on the clock.

Tires was a good point, but if you guys check anything outta place or not standard please let me know.

I was woundeing the same thing. Seat cowl??? You noticed the dent in the left muffler right? If the left side fairing was repainted I would take it off to see if anything
Looks bent.....bet it was dropped....those cans are pretty thick and to dent on me thinks it took some gravity assist. JMO

The outer portion of the muffler where its dented is just a heat shield. Its actually pretty weak.

Aw hell... putting doubts in my mind...

The guy said straight way the fairing had been resprayed due to kids having scratched it. Was possibly dropped(i've certainly dropped a few) i just hope it wasn't thrown down a road.
I looked on one pic it seems like a bit of mirror scratching... but who knows.
I guess have i gotta go with what my gut tells me bout the guy, i know where he lives, lol.

It might been an insurance fix up job, if so when i get it fairing comes off and reevaluation....

I dunno, i just gotta hope for the best i guess.

Thanks for sharing the pics, and no there is no limit! I love those old CB's, maybe because that's what I grew up around. Went from a CB550 to a CB750 and then a CB900. I'm really liking the new retro CB1100 deluxe, it may just be my next bike.

nope, i dont want to remove the fork cover, i was just trying to figure out how in $#$#$ he managed to lose it if the bike has never had the forks off?
Could it have got lost when they replaced the front tire?
If it can come off without the forks being removed mebbe it got lost when they took the front wheel off for a tire change?

I dunno, when i pointed it out to him, he went home, checked and phoned me back saying he's never noticed that before, and he swears he bought the bike new and has never had the forks off.

    To be continued...
