So far the biggest problem with the bike is the grips, my hands get sore/numb very quickly. I am sure some helibars would help but I would like to get some thicker grips. What do you have/recommend?

Had same problem on my 800, went to foam grips. Helibars also helped, not leaning on bars as much.

Try a looser grip on your grips. The old Death Grip style of riding restricts circulation over extended periods.

I really don't grip very hard, I never have. Even short rides around town make me uncomfortable. I use my thighs as much as possible for my weight as I can. My height is mostly in my torso which means I have to lean forward. I also have XXL hands and little tiny grips.

I use the slip over foam grips, over the oem grips. Gives a larger hand hold and is sacrificial so
the oem grips don't wear out. Also helps some with vibration.

Great! It would seem then best to shed a few pounds, raise the bars by means of bar risers or Heli type bars and get larger grips. Or you can wait until everyone has a turn telling you which are the best grips in the known universe. This of course, could take light years. My only real suggestion would be to not consider using any of those harleydood chrome grips with fringes.

These are what I was referring to in my post as well...and he does send you a sucker! :glee:

Here is What you Can expect From Us and Our Grips:

Marked improvement in the durability/longevity of our new SUPER SHARKSKINS
Dramatic improvement in the "Feel and Comfort" of your hands on your grips!
Grips with “All-Weather” qualities. These grips do not absorb water!
A heightened sense of “Control” over your motorcycle due to a satisfied feeling of your hands finally being completely “filled”. . . . . . just the right amount (enough, but not too much)!
A product you can easily and Quickly Install Yourself, over the top of your stock grips!
Grips that are “Heated-Grip-Compatible”. You really feel the heat with these babies!
A durable, long-lasting solution that “Won’t Migrate" like some other available grip options.
An almost "Baffled Feeling" that such a seemingly small/inexpensive addition, could make such a huge difference in your enjoyment of your motorcycle.

My 2 cents: I can vouch for the Grip Buddies.

I replaced my foam covers with the Grip Buddies over the OEM grips and love the result.
The added size and cushioning is just right for me and for the price it's a no brainer.

Here is a review in Rider Magazine:
