In thinking about the term "Laying the bike down to avoid a crash" I'm reminded of the scene in Mad Max where Goose lays down his bike on purpose to avoid the vehicle blocking the road. Maybe that was the thing to do 30 plus years ago? Hmmm, makes me wonder.

Are you giving me attitude? To answer your question, yes. I do expect him to remember that. When I went down my helmet hit the ground and I lost about 2 seconds or so of my memory, but everything else I remember just fine.

If Zero17 does not know if the bike was left running on it's side or not, then I would err on the side of caution and assume it was. I'd get rid of the bike and replace it. That's my opinion.

Send me your snailmail addy and I will send you a bill for attitude. Consider your bike is an 84 and going down running or not or even tossing rods fixing a bike that old up might not be worth the time and effort.

Did you get your memory back yet?

I will leave what might be recalled and what might be expected to the poor dude who had three broken bones after hittlng the deck.

The precise information to support your theory might be found in an accident report. My call is that a dude with that many broken bones who probably had to be carried off in an ambulance, couldn't care less if the bike was running or not and the same for whatever you expect.

    Nice try..

Shave off a couple of years and that is the age of your bike.. Mad Max was 35 years ago. Tempus Fugit. May I suggest a remedial math class at one of the fine adult level high schools in the HISD or maybe one of the local Jr. Colleges. Alvin and San Jacinto are good.

Be sure and see the new "Max" with Charleze Theron as superbitch.. and some dude probably taller than Mel Gibson. She's an amazon..

Billy, I can't make sense of your posts. It's gibberish to me.

Zero17, I hope I gave you some good points to consider about whether to keep and fix your bike or to replace it.

That would be they, not it. That two seconds of being out of it I think

zapped not only your math skills but your reading skills as well. This predicated on the position that they existed in the first place or you may have some form of Texas dyslexia.

That's not very nice. I do think it's nice that you take your shemales out on dates rather than just close encounters and that you are willing to share with dudes as distant as Houston. Overall, a marked improvement.

I'm sure this Texas dude is probably not going to buy in to your offer of protection or hooking up. This just goes to show that if you toss out some crumbs from a bun to some guys pretty soon they want the whole hot dog.

    Sorry for your mishaps
Glad you still here and share your story with us...! Speedy recovery
Fix up the bike if you on a budget, if you not comfortable after the wreck let the insurance total the bike and get a new one when you ready.
    All the best to you.

    Cheers

Heal up then deal with the bike. The slide probably did not do any real bad damage but if it hit the the vehicle it may have hidden damage that could be serious. Do you remember if it hit the vehicle or a curb?

Panic situations often lead to some bad things happening. Situational awareness is a great learned skill that can keep you out of bad events or at least make them less bad. Playing the what if game while riding on the streets has helped me a lot of times. Learning how a particular bike handles and reacts under heavy front braking while maneuvering it in panic situations is a very valuable skill. That back break gets a lot of people in trouble and I have seen a lot of riders who have the reaction of hitting the rear brake first in a panic situation, probably from driving cages.

    Feel better and heal up.

    Hello,
thank you everyone for your thoughts,
    1. I don't know if the bike was left running or not after the accident but I do remember everything after and before to the best of my knowledge.
    3. I'm probably going to sell the bike and get a new one. I don't fell safe riding it after that accident.
    4. The worst part is that I really like this bike and I feel sad to let it go but I don't have to tell you guys that.

I was going west and after the accident the bike was facing north towards me. Maybe to much front or rear brake, that's the one thing I don't remember.

I was not going 35MPH that's for sure. It is a large round-a-about because it serves the off-ramp vehicles, 3 lanes and I was in the middle lane,

Sorry . My bad. I re-read your and my first post and you did say 25 - 30. And in a large 3 lane...maybe OK. We have a few 2 lane roundabouts and that speed would still be too fast. Not necessarily for you the rider, but for the other idiots who don't know how to use the circles and cannot properly gauge their entrance and exit.

Get her check out, she might be just fine and if you really like her fix it. I have tossed a lot of bikes down the track a various speeds and have always been able to repair the low side crashes. It's when they tumble or hit solid objects that can cause really bad damage. 35 mph low side is a pretty quick fix usually. But the lure of a new bike might be calling......

Sadly - You made a mistake and paid for it with pain, a broken bike, etc. It's a hard pill to swallow, but you already know now - to blame it on anybody but yourself would be a lesson poorly learnt. which might lead to something similar happening again in future if you choose to think that way...
When you get a new bike, use every opportunity to learn to brake well in an emergency. Check your mirrors and if it's clear behind you, swerve into another lane and brake HARD at traffic lights. You should be thinking of the forks compressing first before the tire gets maximum grip. Make braking very hard something you're comfortable doing so when the real situation occurs, it'll be just like practice and you won't feel fear. Same goes for changing direction quickly, accelerating out of corners, overtaking with proper timing, etc. Be aggressive with how you ride and treat every other road user as a potential danger defensively so they can't catch you out. Leaving an escape exit if needed, is also a good habit. Space between you & another vehicle is not always something to be eliminated. Slow or stationary vehicles at intersections are usually the ones that need the most caution, etc. I'd add that learning to ride a bike off-road will teach you a lot about how to handle a bike in a slippery situation, without much risk of injury. It's fun, but also teaches good skills.

Panic on a bike is down to lack of confidence and knowledge. Learn from this mistake so it won't happen to you again and you'll probably enjoy riding a lot more too as a result. Ride safe!

Zero, it might be time for another VFR this time with ABS. That abs works well, you can give it a handful in an emergency situation and it will stop you quick without a lockup and fall over. I think it's great.

I see the new 2014 vfr800 also has traction control. That's looking pretty good as well.
