Hi guys, I'm not yet but hoping to buy a VFR 800. I have been looking at an 05 plate with 12000 on clock. Is there anything I should be looking for with a bike of this age/mileage?

That bike is just run in. I believe there may hav been awiring harness recall, if so check that that has been done. Otherwise normal checks on a 2nd hand bike.

Watch for the usual wear items, tires, chain, brakes etc as well as the harness recall already mentioned. These bikes benefit from a number of modifications such as a power commander to sort out a lean condition at low throttle openings at something called a VFRness which is a wire harness that is intended to fortify the charging system. It also benefits from a number of other items such as helibars for old fellas like me with bad backs. If it has a pipe or factory saddlebags it's a big bonus as these are expensive items that most owners want eventually.

    Happy shopping!

If you can afford it, you should stick with 2006-2009. Slight improvements over the 2002-2005 and a little better looking with clear signals.

Of course those can be purchased on ebay for a few dollars. I recently changed my clear signals to smoked - for around $25 and the fitment was quite good.

More info on your experiences with bikes in general might help. Bikes in general check the usual stuff. If you are a new rider, find somebody locally who can help you. This does not include a salesperson at a dealership.

I'm a new rider but not too bad mechanically minded. I have seen this bike once but am going back for a test ride next weekend. The bike looks very clean without to much looking wrong. When it was ticking over the ABS light was on but I have been told this goes off at low speed, is this right??

Yes ABS light will turn off after you take off.
Good luck, might want to post the link or pictures so we can have a better idea of the condition.

    Gary,

Give us an idea of where you are and what you are looking to spend. We are many and can probably dig up some options that are near you as well as others that may warrant the drive. Oh and we love shopping..........for bikes and stuff with other peoples money. :chaingun:

Hi jethro, thanks for the offer but I am in the UK. I also think I will go for this one providing I'm happy with the test ride.
