It blew when I hooked up a portable jumper backwards on the dead battery for 30+ seconds (+ to- and - to +) and hit the starter. Why that would cause the fuse to blow? My guess is that Honda, in it's infinite wisdom, placed a circuit inline that grounds out & blows the fuse when reverse polarity is applied. I'd have to spend some time with the wiring diagram to figure that one out. I'm very glad it did tho as the transistors in the R/R and the ECU would have taken the brunt of the reversed polarity. $$$$

The reversed polarity jumper was essentially wired in as a series battery to double the voltage. [edit] The battery positive goes thru the 30 Amp fuse to the RR where this higher voltage gets directly bled off to ground thru the regulator zener diode--too much current blows the fuse.

You didn't study the FSM, that's for sure if you didn't know about the main fuse.

Me, i'm no rocket-building scientist, but i believe the starter motor is NOT fused through the main 30 amp fuse, has no fuse at all unless i'm wrong (again).

Clymers states that there is a fusable link inline with the positive battery cable. I couldn't find it (duh). The connector doesn't look much like a fuse holder!

Anyway, I know now, thanks to you. In the future I'll just bump start it if necessary.

Took Fang out today, she ran like a scalded cat.

Squirrel is right--ignore what i said, i was thinking about cleaning that rack after looking at Jev's avatar and nearly blacked out...

i think the path is thru the fuse to the RR and the overvoltage is bled off to ground--that's how the fuse gets blown.

    Sounds most likely good call
