Got a shudder coming from the front end of my '05 at speeds over 75-80, gets worse when I accelerate and vanishes when I cut the throttle. I'a thunking the tire's out of balance but would like the pontification of ye ol' Wise Men of VFR, thanks!

Shudder as in a slight bouncing sensation? Or maybe a slight wiggle of the bars? Or just a general shaking feeling? Where do you feel it the most? Hands, feet, butt?

Good to see you stop by:thumb:
Not sure how old is your tire, check for cub also I have similar with my new tire years ago it is buzzy and vibrate when I hit around 70 mph
I took it to another shop and they re balance the tire and it all good. Make sure they used the high speed balance. Good luck and ride safe.

It's a bouncer, not even a hint of a wiggle, as if I'm hitting a series of thick speed paint stripes that I feel in the hands but also feel in every part of me facing front. The bounce becomes more noticeable as I go 75+ and the harder I accelerate, the harder the bounce builds up. It stops the instant I chop the throttle and put more weight back on the front.

Hiya Scubalong, been a bit! The Honda shop has a mix of clip and sticker weights on my '05, with at least one sticker missing on the back, come to think of it. I just checked my records and the front at 23k miles, has been in service since Aug 07 and the rear with 13k, since April 09. Looks like I may wanna think new tires over rebalancing the current ones...

If the front tire has 23,000 miles on it then you could be feeling bounce from the cupping of the tire. More loading of the tire when you decelerate could cause the tire to flatten out a touch and negate the cupping to a certain degree. I would imagine if it keeps wearing the bouncing effect will get worse and eventually not go away when the throttle is closed. At 23,000 miles you've definitely got your money's worth out of it. I've never come close to getting that kind of mileage out of a front tire without cupping. You must be really light on the brakes, and with 13,000 miles on the rear, the throttle.

23k on any front bike tire means that the owner is the king of wheelies.

I checked both tires, no cupping at all. Cupping was a major problem when I first got the bike but running the tires at +4psi over spec has so far prevented any more of that BS. While I do crank the throttle hard now and then, I more often tend to ease in/out of warp speeds and keep the VFR very well sheltered when not riding. Gotta admit, I am surprised at the numbers though (Road Pilots ROCK!)

I'm gonna get the Honda shop to check it out, hopefully it's a balancing issue. I do plan to replace the tires after the season but wanna have all the wheel and suspension bearings replaced too and the money isn't there yet for all that.

BTW Scuba, you did notice my sig?

I'd check/adjust the steering head bearings and change that F tire out right now. Otherwise, I'd park the bike until you can afford to do at least that much. Riding around on questionable tires just isn't worth it!

Agreed! I can do the tires now if I must but if the bearings need more than adjustment, I will have to park her.

Also double check the F and R tire pressures with a different gauge (just in case the one you're using is inacurate for some reason).

Already did that with 3 different gauges, one of which was digital, pressures were good. I plan on taking her to the shop Wednesday so we'll know by the end of the week how things roll, if at all...
