    You betcho backside!

Bike is >15 years old. So NH will not title it. I'm not sure if it is they do not require titling it.. or they straight out will not. But whatever. I just needed a bill of sale, vin confirmation (the title from the seller works) and I'm done. I work in MA where things are far more strict. I've already received 3 comments about how amazed the locals are that I have it plated already. Guy across from me seems to think I just swapped the plate from something else. Nope, she's legit.

Speaking of legit. Ran the bike on the supah slab to work this morning. Very nice. Very, very nice.

Everything else in my stable is a V-twin or thumper. I had forgotten what it was like to have a bike with that top-end hit. Bike pulls great and I wound it out to triple digits once just to prove it would do it. Everything seems to work as it should except the cracked right side mirror. I will need to pull that for inspection as I can pass with just one mirror, but can't with a cracked mirror.

Bike is rock solid at speed. Steering is a little slow and the suspension is a little stiff for my tastes. But we'll see how I get used to it.

It is a little quiet for my tastes on the highway. I can't hear the music over the wind.. This may be the first bike I've ever had that I throw an obnoxious loud pipe at.

That's pretty great man, love to see someone follow through! I've been looking for a good 3rd gen in my neck of the woods as well. Seems like everyone is either really proud of them, or completely neglects 'em and still wants beaucoups $.

I had one for 20 years and just got another one. This one was neglected to chit I tell you! The tank was rusty and the carbs were "hacked" by someone who had no business turning a wrench on a motorcycle (why would anyone leave plier marks on brass parts? :loco:) It took about a month after trailoring it home to get it road worthy, just having to wait for ebay/honda parts etc.
Its a smooth "mutha" compared to my other bike. I got a lot of history with my first one and this one is a close second. Funny, I was oot a few nights ago and I was in fifth gear and was wondering why it was only at 135mph :pound: I backed down to 80 or so and shifted to sixth! My other one has a Fox Shock and Race Tech internals in the front end. Has a Factory Pro shift kit, K&N, and a slip on pipe. The slip on is as quiet as the stocker. Sound gets you tired sometimes, its a neato engine for sure :mech: I picked up a K&N filter and did fork springs, stock shock is ok so far. I am real happy, what can I say.

Do yourself a favour and get new fork springs, I took mine apart and the idiot before me had no spacers in there along with missing two washers. Like I said before, some people should know better.

I used to live in NJ and paid $1000 for insurance on one bike. That was just liability, (foggy memory here-It may have been full coverage.) not a sport bike either. In Florida, if you have title you don't need to run insurance on a motorcycle. I have it though just liability though. Cheers

I Have to admire your patience, Bubba! Looks like you got what you were looking for. I got my '95 VF750 last fall for $2500 - it was in fine shape (needed a new tire and the built-up stock seat had to go), and other than damage I've done to it ('nother story), it's been great. The consensus on the internet sites is that the Honda motors from the Gen 3-6 era have been impressively dependable. Best of luck, and watch for moose on the Kank if you're up this way! :smile-new:

I wana hear the tale of the colour choice of "BLACK/ORANGE" on the old "MACH 1" dats all I know. Painted frame story would be interesting too. You did'nt remove the motor for that did you?

The choice of colors was out of my affection for the official HD colors. ; For my stuff I stick with basic hotrod colors and color combos. Black and Orange go well together. The next time I paint it I may do what HD did to that ill fated factory roadracer and do either side a bit different.

The plastic needed some fixing and the old red was really fading. The top of the seat cowl between the tail lights was pink..

The Orange is "Fire Orange" from Martin-Senour. Martin-Senour is a Sherwin-Williams company. The black on the fairing is just black from the same source. Chainguard was sanded and primed with Krylon fusion and painted with black Hammerite.

The tank decal as you know has to be removed since it is between the factory paint and the clearcoat, so that got down to bare metal.. I use a filler primer that is a lacquer base with a really hot solvent fraction that can be recoated in minutes.

The frame member was painted with the engine in.. Same Martin-Senour paint with just a shot of flatting agent in it. Just careful masking and using the products that are made for masking. I am a big 3M fan

The wheels are paint too as are the centers of the rotors. Again careful masking and spraying. I use HVLP or a conventional rig with a Binks BBR with a head that is designed for fine work.

My stuff is almost never clearcoated. I apply sometimes as many as five coats of paint. Lots of tricks to that like using more reducer with each coat so the paint flows. I also warm the paint.

The axiom holds true. Aboot 98% prep and the rest in actual painting. Total time for paint application was maybe an hour and a shitload of prep.

Gonna stick with the SOS.. for the dudes that are going to paint a bike. Buy a book and RTFM..

The Beemer is on Rich's Seats site in the vintage section of the gallery. Same deal, lots of prep and that one is a Toyota color done in lacquer.

In fact, I am. May or may not have been motorcycle related. May or may not have been worth it.

In the last 2 years I discovered track riding. Shortly thereafter I bought a used 'n abused race bike from a guy who bought it from a guy who raced it, probably after someone else raced it. It is the village bicycle.. with a carburetor and a yosh pipe. Had (has) no title and probably never got street registered. All the usual upgrades (suspension, brakes, steering damper, race plastics). Bike came to me looking pretty sad, but functional. I bought it on a Friday and had it on-track a week later.. at which point I promptly high-sided it, fubaring it nicely. I've since repaired it and run it at track day events frequently.

Unless I come to my senses soon, I may be racing that with the local club series very soon.

Then something possessed me to buy a dual-sport. I've always wanted one of those. So I bought one. It took me about 5 minutes to learn enough about supermotos to learn that I wanted in on that action. Last winter I found a reasonably priced set of Excel wheels dressed with hi-perf rotors and a sprocket for reasonable money. I pounced. I now have a dual-sport (complete with OHV sticker) that has sumo-wheels and a hot front brake. That also sees track day action.

Last year I went to Deals Gap NC with some guys I barely knew. We rented a house and rode the snot out of that region for a week or so. At one point I got the opportunity to throw a leg over a naked bike one of the guys brought. When I returned from that trip I started tucking some cash aside to buy/build one for myself. Round out the garage nicely, I thought.

I never bought the naked. This VFR will have to do in its place. I do adore that engine. This thing would have been my phone wallpaper when I was a kid.. if I had a phone.. or wallpaper.

Maybe one of these days I'll loose my mind or fubar the plastics bad enough to try something like this. In the meantime I'm just going to ride the wheels off it. Four days in and the odometer reads 1k miles higher.

I was at the foot of the Kanc yesterday. I left the key on while we were hydrating and gassing up in the lot at the Tedeschi's right there on 112. Wound up having to bump start my prized new toy in front of all my ducati and triumph fanboi friends.

Bike and I are getting along quite well. I wish she were a bit lighter.. but then I've said that about a lot of the girls in my life.
