My 01 is about to get torn down by a few of the members of our M.C. club for repainting. While it's apart, I wanted to do a few things I had ideas on. First was an HID upgrade. However I am strongly opposed to just having low beams only. Has anyone upgraded to a dual bulb hi/low HID kit? And which did you use? Would like to find one I don't have to blow my entire VA check on that month (if possible).

Second, I was reading up here on the desnorkel and flapper valve removal. What real benefit do we get off this? I tried to find a walk through here on it but probably didn't search right. I was "thinking" about finding a way to route the air box out to the side of the bike and into a chromed cone filter. Cheesy I know, but with the color we are going to be using on the bike? There is a reason. Has anyone done this? Or have a good idea on how to do this? I don't really mind cutting through the fairing obviously, just want to know the best hardware and routing.

5th gen headlights are designed to use the reflectors to throw the beam to the right place.
HID's are designed for projector type headlights.
You need to change to projector type HID's, which is a bit trickyer.
5th gen headlights are very good, all you need is a couple of quality H4 bulbs like Osram Night Breakers.
A 10th of the price and 2 minutes work.

I don't think you will see much gain, if any, with desnorkel and flapper valve removal on a 5th gen. I believe those are better 6th gen mods. Get a good high flow air filter, pipe, and MAYBE a power commander. Our headlight bulbs are 45w/45w, I run 55w/60w bulbs and they light up the road better. LED sounds interesting...I'm about do for something new :smile-new:
