I researched Castrol 10-50w rt with the highest oil rating and it works perfect in sport bike and adds engine protection in hot weather works good in fairly cold weather too, so it isn't too thick. Gas mileage increase from dino oil too. When the oil starts to get old it would work better than a 10-40. It also cost $7 a qt-the lowest price full syn I could find. When you have side mounted radiators anything you can do to help with heat is a great idea as well as running a slightly bigger oil filter. I think the vfr could do 150,000 miles with out a rebuild. I am going to run this oil around 3,000 by then summers over then I switch to 05-40 with a little 10-40. They sell it in 6 qt boxes. Randy on his long trips should try some.

Your choices... but you are overthinking it. People have posted more times than I can count trying EVERYTHING to help lower the temps. I run Amsoil motorcycle 10w40 and not a bit of difference in temps, just smoother shifting. There are several guys on here with over 100k running 10w40. If memory serves derstuka runs Rotella and he has over 124k. Randy is over 110k......

Ya. And all I use is Crisco Oil. Wait! Different kind of riding.
Just spent a night in probably the worse figgen motel ever. Non smoking room smelled of stale smoke. No shampoo. No facial tissue. No plug for sink. No coffee. Burned out light. All for the low pri e od $100.00. If you are ever in Calgary, stay away from the Olympia Motel. Last remodeled when the winter Olympics were held in Calgary.

Damn Randy you could have crashed here, have a 1000 sq/ft shop and an extra bed room. Free coffee and muffins in the morning. No Beer though. Yeah the Olympia is a POS. Next time someone is coming through Calgary and needs a place to crash let me know a day or 2 in advance and you're more then welcome to crash here for a night or 2.

Just set up a camouflage tent and netting in the woods somewhere-no one will know your there, gee A guy did that for 12 years in Maine-some kind of Hermit. Ya a $100 for a Bed bug invested room, you may need to see the doctor after that Hotel from hell. I actually stayed in the worst Crak Hotel in California once-real nasty, but better then bus station. I got a appointment to have my pannier bags put on-they look very pretty.

Looks like he needs to carry more stuff-it doesn't look like he brought a tent-I did see a bed pack-or was that a duffel bag. Maybe a good map with places to stay along the way. Or a GPs. I just set up a tom tom on my tank bag,. I have a $500 radar unit too. Right now I am setting up for a Long Day ride. I don't want to bother with a tent or a motel . Unless I go real far.:flex::rofl::couch2::whoops:

Proof-I think I can prove I am right-take a look at the reviews on amazon on Castrol rt 10-50. 1.Fact it is not too thick. 2.Fact it holds more heat away from metal parts. 3.Fact when the oil ages it maintains a higher weight grade. 4.It saves gas over dino oil.:funky::deadhorse::kev::boxing:

What kind of tire splits like that? Looks like it was over loaded. Not enough air in the tires? I think you could send that tire in and get one free. Looks like a defective tire. I am tired all ready. I got a free motorcycle tire once. How long were you riding like that?:heh::banana:

Well, I have been watching that tire for a few days now. The center was getting quite flat and I was expecting to order new tires when I got home. Those tires have lots of miles on them but they are mostly slabbing miles so the center wears far more than the shoulders. And yes, It was loaded down pretty good. Last checked the tire in Merrit BC and no beads were showing. I don't think it would have lasted much longer on teh freeway.

BTW. The tire did not split. That is the rubber worn right to the beads.

Hate to tell you but better looking and fit. Sorry..... But his riding buddy was a skinny old dude with a scraggly beard. Does that help? Hey my rear tire was similar to yours when I got to Oakland a week or so later when we rode. Not as many cords were showing though.

I got home today. Total miles 7441, last two days were 640 and 650 miles each. Nothing broke on my bike, didn't even use a drop of oil. May be you need a Bird??
