My buddy told me to drill two or three one inch holes in the airbox cover and it will perform better. Is that true?

How much does your friend want for that stock airbox cover he has for sale?

A real sales dude would loan you a 1" bit or hole saw.

I think you should drill 1/4 holes in air box, make it look like swiss cheese that should give you plenty of extra air flow and don't forget to get some Castrol 10-50 RS-but that might be too good for you, use some Mobil 1 truck oil 05-40 instead. Another great tip fill your tires up the max like 42 pounds at least. Use some tire wax on the front tire too-makes it look shinny. get some of those no-cut sliders too and a biggest one you can find plastic trunk-the heavy it is the better.:spit::tsk::jason::peep::whoo:

If you're curious- maybe just take the cover off and wrap a strip of tape over the filter to keep it down.

The consensus here amongst those who have removed the snorkel is that it doesn't do anything to enhance performance- just made it louder.

The concern became the potential for water in the air box and so many put it back on.

I seem to recall someone dyno'd their bike without the snorkel and the bike lost more than it gained. (Unless that was the pair valve or flapper??)

Personally I felt like I was twisting the throttle more at lower rpm but it did open up at higher. I have a K&N and Stain Tunes exhaust btw.

In which case start with small holes you can more easily plug.

Could a couple of really big holes be drilled, then get one of those fans and a really long extension cords from Walmart for a sort of elcheapo blower?

Son of Worf probably already has one and here I am again sucking hind tit.

Your right more noise, it rains here real hard, I am not screwing with the air box except to maybe try a pipercross air filter. I think having a oem style filter and a HP flow one might be a great idea as you have to clean the pipercross-so just though the oem one back in-its very simple to change the air filter on a 06-seven screw , pull one hose off, take the seat off. if you put holes in the air filter water and dirt can get in.

Spare ice can be kept in one of those bigass top cases. There is some concern that melting is a problem. This is allayed by the ease of doing some really cool wheelies and diminishing the need for bailing all at the same time.

I did the flapper/snorkel mod and the induction roar is actually loud. Louder than my de-snorkeled 4th gen, anyway. More air wouldn't hurt, but it might not really be necessary.

I think your right, I too tried the flapper mod and snockel. Didn't like the sound put it back. I would think a Higher flowing air filter might work ok, but water coming in with the snockel off-isn't worth the risk:GB_bonesrock:

I think the bike runs better than ever, more power everywhere, no more flat spots or surging. Its just rather loud, which I'm ok with.
