So I took my bike to the shop to have them install the new Helibars I bought, and the tech told me that the holes were missing on the right bar, and he'd have to drill them to get everything to fit right. I mentioned that there were holes on the other bar, but he seemed to think that both bars needed holes. After carefully drilling holes, installing the right bar, then trying to install the left bar, he came to the conclusion that he'd been putting the bars on backwards the whole time.

He switched them out, and the install went pretty smoothly after that. So now I have a few extra holes on one helibar, do you think that will affect the integrity of the handlebar at all? Oops.

It would affect taking any work back to that shop. Was this a Harley shop by chance? I was going to suggest some T-shirts that say RTFM but if the shop is a Harley shop it will do no good.

    I hope this helps.

Send an email to HeliBars explaining what happened with pictures. Ask them if theyfeel they are safe or need to be replaced. If and When they can't guarantee thier safety and recomend replacing them then let your mechanic know and show him the letter from HeliBar. If he doesn't replace them at his cost then you have a case for small claims court.

You could put some J.B Weld in the hole if it bothers you. Or have a weld shop fill the hole. The shop should still compensate you in some way.Maybe give you a break on the install, since they botched the install

Yeah, I started to put mine on backwards but could see that it just wasn't right. For some reason they just look right if they're on backwards. Go figure.

I bet some chewing gum would plug holes in those Helibars too. I'd get the gray kind rather than pink bubblegum for a better color match. For those confused with right from left the gum should be chewed some first IMO.

Dude drilled the hole, his mistake. He should replace it. End of story in my books.

    Ditto.

I don't care what the part is. If some dude went and drilled holes in my brand new part because he didn't know WTF he was doing, he'll be paying for new parts, thank you very much.

It's been many moons ago, but i think mine were marked left and right. If you want a little more height you can slide them up the tube so the top is flush

He should buy you a new bar. I would not worry about the integrity of the bar but the integrity of the mechanic if he does not do right. I put on ConvertiBars and it was very simple. Never have experience with heli.

Thanks for the input, I'm chewing gum right now just in case. I e-mailed Heli a few days ago, still awaiting their response. The shop knocked $50 off the installation cost the day of, we'll see how amicable they'll be to buying a new bar for me. I'll wait till I get something in writing from Heli either way, that'll make my case easier.

Heli makes a great product. The mach 1 91 fell over and one bar was bent. Hoping that the bent bar could be straightened , I called them. Bottom line was no dice and they no longer were tooled up to make a set for the 91.

The hassle was wading through the chicas who answer the phones whose favorite word is no. I finally got hold of the boss and he made me up a set to fit the bike at no extra charge.

What we don't know is how big is this hole and do you prefer spearmint or doublemint.. as in the fine example above.

Geez billy, there you go again with the Harley bashing. If donutninja had a HD shop install Heli bars on his VFR the mechanic would have made the extra holes with a punch & hammer not one of those sissy drill bits.
