hey guys I thought id share my latest project with everyone. Being disgusted with hondas feeble attempt at a helmet lock I decided to take matters into my own hands. I purchaced a helmet lock off of a "road kill" 750 magna from a local motorcycle salvage shop for 20 bucks.

Idecided to on a suitable location right in front of the LH passenger footrest

I mocked up a bracket to place behind footrest and provide a mount for the lock.

i then removed the thickness of the bracket from the raised pad's on the back of the footrest on the mill. I know its only a .118" difference but i did not want the bracket to stick out.

Alittle paint and i was all ready to install.

Here is the finished product installed on the bike.

Hope this gives someone some ideas...... later.........

Doesn't the 6th Gen VFR have a helmet lock already? My 2000 has one that looks exactly like the one you purchased & it's in pretty much the same location you mounted that one.

    KC-10 FE out...

6th gen, you take your metal d ring on the helmet and attach it to a metal peice under the seat and then reinstall the seat. it kinda blows, but i prefer a small cable lock through the chin bar to keep people from cutting the strap...

this write up is cool though. very cool.

Wow, how stupid is that? here's an idea for you guys: http://www.barender.com/

As far as cutting the strap, not only would that ruin the helmet making stealing it pointless, D-ring locks prevent the passerby from getting ideas - they usually don't have anything to cut with on them anyway.

Some unreputable places re-sow helmet straps.

I would use tamper resistant bolts. Anybody with an allen set can just remove the bolts and take the helmet - lock and all.

I believe the best way would be to drill and tap holes for the bolts to be installed from the inside - maybe where the seat or some other part would have to be removed first to access the head of the bolts.

On the older Hondas, the helmet lock is keyed the same as the ignition key. There is a code on the helmet lock and you can have a key cut for that code. If your helmet lock is stolen, your bike may be next . . .

Good work. It is a pain to get my helmet to lock on the rig. That is a great idea.

Well the nuts are welded to the bolt on the backside of the bracket so they may be a little hard to remove....... I also have a Scorpio alarm system so thay cant even get that close to the bike....

If you're interested in making a couple of bucks I would love a bracket so i could mount a lock there. I have an 06 also and I do agree it gets old taking the seat off every time you want to ditch the lid. If interested let me know.

Let me see if I have this straight. Each time you want to use the stock helmet lock you have to raise the seat? So...if you are on a long trip with tons of gear strapped on the passenger seat you have to remove all of that just to put your helmet into the lock?
That's almost as dumb as my wife's Honda 600 Hurricane years ago.
To get the seat off you had to unbolt two side bolts. Of course...the tools were stored under the seat...duh!
As a former engineer sometimes I am overwhelmed by design stupidity.
