Rode my new 2012 VFR 1200 home Saturday. Moved from FJR. Loving the ride and getting use to the more aggressive riding position.

Looking for some good advice/comments on some accessories: saddlebags, windshield, risers (maybe), exhaust.

Any and all advice will be welcomed and considered.

I average about 16,000/year. Ride year round (live in McKinney, TX).

    Thanks

    Congrats and welcome aboard.

There's a separate section in the forums for "7th Generation". A couple of stickied threads as well, including long term reviews. You might find these helpful.

And post up some pictures of that shiny new ride. Or at least some hot Texas babes in bikinis. Sheesh.

    lol, yeah.. what he said!

I don't have any experience with the 7th gen, but I do with luggage. On my 5th gen I have a Givi/Kappa setup. On my 6th gen I have the OEM. As for the luggage itself, they are equal. Both are damn nice and good quality. But for the mounting assembly, I much prefer the Givi mounts. The OEM is not only heavy as hell, but you are also limited to only using the OEM luggage. With the Givi, it's like a lego system! Swap out what you have for what you want when you want it.

    Just my $0.02

Not far from you. I ride most weekends North into the country. Full gear, lots of fun. Come ride some time. Entrance to roads is 380 west or east depending on the route.

    Congrats on the bike.
Accessory wise I've found the wind deflector works well for me, the heli bars take just enough pressure off the wrists and the heated grips from Honda are thin and work well. I have the bags and they work fine but I'm sure Givi's would be as practical for less $'s. You might also want to contact Don Guhl about getting your ECU reflashed to rid the bike of the restrictions Honda has imposed on us. I'm visiting him next week, can't wait.
    All the best & enjoy.

I'm not far from you either. North East in Leonard. Nice bike, by the way! Did you get it at Al Lamb's? (can't tell by this picture.)

Sounds like you might be in Bonham. I got the best deal at DFWHonda in Grapevine. I think I got a great deal. Post or PM me when you are going riding and maybe I can meet up w/ you.

For more bar comfort, you might also consider the LSL bar kit from Speigler. I installed these on my 1200 and it is WAY more comfortable then stock. 20 years ago the stock bars would have been good, but now I'm older I need a more relaxed position. I'm not saying the Helibars wouldn't be an improvement, just what I put on and found very comfortable.

I've got a set of Heli BARS and buell foot pegs (bit lower). 1000 miles of twisty roads in 2 12 hour days comfy and still able to shred with the sport bikes. Great bike, especially with a bit of attention. Check the flapper mod for a bit of free sound.

Thanks for the suggestions on risers. I am going to do some research on the risers.

    Ozz, no excuses necessary!

Take a look at the muffler, the top of 2 exhaust exits has a flapper that should be closed. There is a cable coming out of the top if the muffler that leads to the under sear area. Use an Allen to remove the back cover of the muffler and the the inner cover with a socket wrench. Remove the pin cable from the flapper and then UN bolt the cable from the muffler. Follow the cable to the motor and remove it from there. Leave the motor there and alone so it does not throw a code. Leaving the inner cover off actually sounds better (weird, but try it and see). Replace outter cover and done. No more Honda sewing machine sounds at idle and under about 6k without being too loud. Grumbles a bit and pops at idle, butbi get "that thing sounds great" comments all the time. And it's free! 15 min job. And easy to return to the way it was if you don't like it.

li bars are a great addition, actually better for control IMHO because the y bring your hands out for more leverage.
