adj the drive chain?

    The shop adj my chain a bit tight. I pushed up on it and it has maybe a inch of freeplay-you think that is enogh? It was loose before maybe 1.5 inch deflection.:mechanic::alien:

    Book says 1 to 1 3/8" so you should be OK.

    I guess it ok. I had the fork oil changed out to belray 7w HP mineral. I went on a short ride, the forks did seem better. My mods to stock suspension so far are only Belray fork oil and scotts damper with excellent M5 Metzler tires. I am finished going though the bike. I am going to add a stock air filter and change the oil soon and add GPS to the tank bag. I am setting it up to do so light touring with only soft bags, tank bag. I have basically finished. I want to upgrade the brake pads however as I think they grab too fast-no rush though. I think it important to take the time to see what works good then rush and do things poorly. So far everything has work:spider: very well.

    How old is your chain? I am going to replace chain and sprockets next week because when I adjusted my chain it appeared OK, then I spun rear wheel and chain got tight then loose again, I have some links that are binding. Make sure you have same slack all the way around.

    the chain is in excellent shape for sure at 5300 miles-it well oiled too with belay clean chain stuff.

    Just new fork oil is a good way to make the bike feel better.
    I went with oem pads up front and chose ebc copper pads for the rear. These are a metalic pad so they have a better bite for if you ride two-up. I kept the fronts on the oem organics since there are two calipers and twice the braking done up front. Also having the back lock up isnt as much of a problem as if the front locks up.

    I strongly agree, the best stick and feel out of anything else I've tried.

    Metzler M5 are made for a heavy bike-those steel belts do wonders-I don't know how they are able to make them work so well-I imagine the tires will last pretty good too-I think they are some where between a sport and a touring tire which matches the VFR so well-. I made up a new type of bike name -I call it a endurance sport bike. :eek-new:

    Great! How many times will we be reminded of your newfound creativity? So far you have a way to go with the drops, pothole and slider posts. Maybe Honda Inc. will hire you as a copywriter. Forget Metzler they require some basic knowledge of tires.

    Nope. You'll just have to take it to the dealer again. The secrets of my technical skills are too arcane to share. I can give you some hints but you will have to have a foil hat on to receive signal.

    You'd be surprised how much slack in the chain is taken up once your full weight is on the bike.
    I do final adjustment with me on the bike, 240 lbs worth.

    so when the bike has weight, the slack changes if your really heavy.:topsy_turvy:

    The chain will not cut you any slack if when you sit on it-the chain is too tight. Once a again Bad Billy can't think. I wonder what amount of weight makes the chain tighten up? And at what weight. If your carrying hard bags that will also figure in. Riding weight is what matters as well as how stiff the shocks are front and back. it looks like the stock specs on chain slack are not really spot on. Perhaps the chain could be off as much as a inch. One person said with center stand on-slack is a inch with it off maybe its a 11/4. In any case it would seem to be not so easy to adj the chain dead on for the riding weight. To be spot on, I would say sit on the bike with center stand on and have another person adj the chain. Not so simple is it Bad Billy!:chaingun::spy::nod::banana::heh:
