Do we have any structural engineers on this board that would listen to a problem in a PM? Trying to get ideas how to remedy a problem with a deck sagging due to stupidity and laziness of the original house builder.

    PM me if you wish.

    Thanks kindly.

    Hey Randy

I know a guy in Osoyoos who is a structural engineer. I'll shoot him an email and see if he can help you out. PM with an email address.

In 6th grade I won a competition for the most unique Lincoln Log structure.

I followed that up in 8th grade by becoming the county champion at Jenga.

Please feel free to PM me your details. I will sketch out a resolution.

I solved Randy's problem. I told him not to deal with me. Bweiss is qualified. I am not. Plus he has access to pictures of nice butts.

Good luck Randy. Hope it works out.

Worse case. I continue on crankong that adjustable pole up 2 inches a year and every e years or so div it out and backfill. I would hate to sell this problem to someone else. I swear, if I ever have a house built, a strong European accent will be a condition of the contract.

Randy please don't try to blame this on someone else.... Just admit you were drunk when you built the deck.

Agreed. But the original builder dug a hole there and buried untold amount of construction debris there so who knows what I will run into when I dig that out. To dig a hole, I need to take down a substantial portion of the deck. Was looking for an alternative such as cantilevering the deck over that spot. This the request out to someone who has studied structural engineering to see if any of my ideas would work. BWiess has been great in helping out though he is a civil engineer but has contacts who are structural.

Thank you to everyone for their help. I think I have the answer. Looks like a job for next year and a big one at that.

Haha Randy...structural is a subset of civil engineering. All S.E.s began with being C.E.s but have more specialized experience and have passed additional testing.

Randy needs to be more patient and wait until his buddy SOW chimps in.
