Gutting my bike's exhausts, is it ok to leave the baffles out?

So I decided to gut my 06 VFR800's exhausts, and pulled out both baffles. I'm planning on just leaving them out. Will I run into any problems doing so? Too loud perhaps?!?

Dunno, depends how picky your local PD is. Pull em, if you see red/blue lights reinstall. VFR without baffles sounds like a V8 muscle car.

I don't think they would bother much... I'm mostly concerned if it'll affect the motor in a bad way.

i did a total gut on my 07 stock exhaust, not too loud but noticeable. all i left in wast the resonator pipes on the endcap. these tune the pitch of the exhaust, shorter = higher pitch longer = lower

side note, the cans dont get as hot anymore but still too hot to touch!

Does that mean that you pulled the baffles and only left the 1" pipes in the endcaps?

I pulled the whole baffle out and just left the 1" pipes in the endcaps.

thats right, the garbage in the middle isnt needed.

one of the exit pipes is bent, the other is straight. i left them as they were and cut out everything towards the in port.

I imagine the later bikes are a bit quieter in the lower rev range with the VTEC stealthiness.

I 've got a 'screamin demon" aftermarket on my '01 non vtec vfr and she pops a bit on backoff. So I'm gonna try O2 sensor eliminators and see if that stops the POP. If your thing is doin the same , might try that too as it may be that it is leaning out on backoff which can't be good for engine longevity.

I think the pop you are referring to is because of the PAIR valves, or at least thats what i heard it is. I deleted mine so i will see if it does get rid of that popping noise.

If you are hearing a pop on throttle close and coasting (deceleration) that is the over rich fuel map still sending fuel. The pair system adds air to the exhaust so the cat can burn the extra fuel, but the o2 sensors pick up the extra air. It takes a second for the bike to lean out to idle or just off idle conditions, hence the popping. Deleting the o2 sensors with a resistor set doesnt help much. Pair removal and a more rapid ecU map that follows the tp sensor for fuel map location that is shifted up or down by o2 corrections would totally get rid of that effect and provide smoother control. May not get more power but definitely better control and economy.

What if you have the cat removed which I believe has been done to my bike by previous owner?

Sounds like a 16ga going off behind you on throttle close. Not terribly loud, but you wont miss it. Riders behind you will also make note of the rich smell and if youve been riding hard and its dark enough, they may see little blue bursts from your exhaust.
Other than that, these engines require a certain amount of back pressure to prevent over scavenging. Not much but some. This Is expected by the ecu and if it sees a lean condition from over scavenging then it will start dumping fuel in to prevent damage.

There is nothing wrong with a catless system, just have to make allowances for the changes and possibly trick the ecu to thinking that there has been no change.

Thanks for your reply Zen. Do you think I should replace baffles to up the back pressure a tad? Your dead right! It does sound like a 12 gauge at times but mainly with a cold engine as it's just warming up!
