I just bought my son a 97 vfr 750F. Some cosmetic damage, but mechanically, very sound. We have gone through it, checked everything over, tried to fix some of the plastic, but will take much more time than he wants to spend right now, you KNOW kids. Question is, what kind of oil do we want in it. I called Honda and they said do not use synthetic in it, WHY? I run Rotella synthetic in everything else i own with excellent results. Please help me understand.

p.s. I will be asking many other question in the future, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Jeff

Congrats on the purchase thats a great bike. ;) Dude those guys at the dealership/shop don't know there product very well then, sheesh go use your synthetic.. they'll be no problems

I've been using Amsoil in em for years. When I had my 97 vfr in for the 32k service I came to pick it up the shop, tech asked me what oil I used, I went why, something wrong? he says Nope, looks brand new inside was wondering what you use I'm going to use what ever it was I used. he also let me know all valves cept for one was spot on, even the one that wasn't was like .001mm off the mark lose, it was within limits so they left well enough a lone. I walked out of the place with a big grin. so yea, go use your synthetic they don't know shit do they..

Go ahead and use the synthetic - theres a lot of argument but stay with a high grade motorcycle specific synthetic. I like Mobil 1 and others here like AMSOIL - all good stuff.

Amsoil gets my vote. I have used it on all my bikes that were 1998 and newer. No problems.
