Glad that you two are ok. Small get off, though it's still a bad situation. With my attitude with drunks now-a-days I think I would have decked his ass at least once if that happened to me. Yes officer he got those all those bruises when I knocked him down with the bike after he ran out in front of me..........The frecking drunk ain't gonna know what or when it hit em..........

I am glad that you are OK. I had a very similar thing happen to me years ago. (drunk driver turned in front of me) I was wearing gear but no gloves. I remember that day whenever I think of not wearing my gloves, even for a short distance. That was a painful lesson.

I ride with Olympia pants and jacket. The pants, sans the inner liner, are armored but vented. They are wonderful, like riding in shorts.

The jacket still protected me, but not as good as it would have if it fit properly. Think I'm gonna get myself a textile from joe rocket now though. Hers seemed to hold up great and she ate it hard...

With my temper, his head would have been caved in. I told the cop I should have beat him to down with what was left of my helmet until they arrived to pull me off of him.

First, glad you two came out OK, bummer about your bikes too. Scubalong and I were riding home on PCH in Malibu and some bumb ass dog owners were walking their dog off leash and it decided to run right in front of Long and he had to brake really hard to avoid hitting it. Luckily both came out OK and that no one behind him took him out either.

I learned a hard lesson of asphalt vs. skin when I used to skateboard. We went out one day doing a little down hill action and the board got speed wobbles and then I went flying head first, scraping the palms of both hands and a good portion of my elbow/forearm and a slight scrape on the knees. My cousin had the same happen later that day but he also slid on his stomach, let's just say it wasn't pretty!

Ever since then, I've always geared up when I was on the board, and now the bike too. I NEVER ride without protection any more. This means boots, helmet, gloves, jacket and either Kevlar pants with knee/shin armor or my textile pants with armor. Being in SoCal the temps do get up there, 80's - 100's at times but I have bought gear to fit just about every temp range so I have no excuse to not be wearing gear. From low 20's to the upper temps I've got it covered (pun intended).

Glad you had enough gear on to be ok. Good luck on the legal front. In California, a pedestrian in the crosswalk has right of way. You have to stop and wait until they get out of the crosswalk to go.

So here in Cali. they would agree the pedestrian can be an idiot in the middle of the street ..... so long as they are in a crosswalk.

Sorry to hear about the carnage, glad you two are ok.
While fighting the system, check into your states laws on cross walks. Last time I looked into them, they are a one way path for the walker. So if you start on the north and walk to the south then you must complete the trip before being able to turn around.
The public intoxication is only if the person is offensive or a danger to themselves.

Still I would start a civil suit and make him pay for his stupidity.

Wrong. You did not have to go down. You could have stopped sooner on two wheels.

If you accept the outcome of going down then you will, but good training and smooth, quick reflexes will almost always keep you upright. Take an advanced rider's course.

And the only reason we die, is because we accept it as an inevitability...:smug:

In all seriousness, I also recommend advanced rider courses but that is regardless of any incidents one may have had. The nature of riding a motorcycle requires so much more attention from us as riders than driving a car, so the better riders we are, the less likely we'll have mishaps, but it is still no guarantee we will not go down at some point.

Proper fit is crucial for the gear to work. I would still get leather too. Perforated leather is not that hot.

That sux oot loud, in my 200,000+ plus of street riding I had a skirmish with a pedestrian, I was not on my viffer, but was approaching a j-walking citizen and when I jogged right, so did he, when I jogged left, so did he. I ended up tagging him with my right piinkie knuckle traveling aboot 45mph? I watched in the mirror and he did not go down in the street, so I kept on keeping on. The next day, I looked at my right hand, and the knuckle was black&blue, imagine what the mofo had on what ever part of his body I hit. I would hazard to say, the bastage would not j-walk again. Fix your bike and ride on...if you hit a pedestrian and kill them or maim them in a car/bike your life is gona be over btw...maybe better to kill them. Sir Pauls ex-wife lost her leg from a motorcycle in the UK, may have been the royal police or a messenger....Cheers

Maybe so but I jumped on my brakes too quick and the tires locked up on me too. So down I went right behind her. Too late to worry about it now.

this looks like the only thing that would have saved you is abs. I didn't want another bike without it. I was amazed you fast it would stop, just by grabbing the front brakes, perfect stop every time and zero lock up every time. You just cannot think fast as a computer controlling the brakes In a emergency stop. Add a set of better brake pads and I don't think anything is going to stop faster. Add sticky tires. One time I was see if I could stop super fast . I added SS lines which gave me better feel before lock up on a R6. A truck pulled out in front of me, I had to slam the brakes on and did a real stoppy, back wheel in air. I had almost a empty gas tank that and the ss lines saved me. The worst mistake is throw the bike in a slide. A heavy bike like the vfr with stock rubber lines and stock pads would make it near impossible not to lock the front brakes up in a emergency stop and the bike would side out. Cross walks-people have the right away-so expect stupid people in some states. In NY you could run them over not in Maine. being from NY I almost ran over people when I moved here, because I didn't know. That's why I think its a bad situation, nobody knows what is going on.:bull_head:
