I really hate spending money like this, but the roads suk so bad, I think a steering damper would help a lot over rough roads, I am also having the fork oil changed with maxum 10 w fork oil. I am close to getting the bike set up for me, so far my mod with sergeants seat, oil change, carbon canister removed, zg touring windscreen with black lower plastic paint, folding levers, M5 metzler tires, 2bos carbon slip-on, tank pads, heated grips, tank bag, clutch and brake fluid change. I am finished for a while the bike now has about 5060 miles. Don't ask me, I didn't want all those old pics in there-don't seem to get them out

Are dampers those things that keep bikes from falling over?

Well actually a scotts damper will help in preventing some falls by slowing down the steering a little ,at low speeds the Front wheel won't jump as fast and that way you don't fall over. It also will help if you twist up the front wheel on a big pothole at high speed. And on wet roads you turn the damping up to prevent wet slides. Or oiled up roads too-which is the worst other than glare ice. I had a cheaper damper on my R6 which would turn very fast-I slow it down with a turn on the dial. the scotts has three different circuits on it maybe a 100 different settings-its the Cadillac of steering dampers. Its made like a swiss watch-cost was no object in making it. It comes with all hardware to install and looks really cool. I also got security bolts because its just to easy to steal came to $450 shipped-the lowest price I could find for a New one. You can use it on another bike if you get the hardware. This is a real hydro damping device-it will also help with vibration hitting your hands which wears them out as they get tired.:drums::tongue2::mech:

I'll take those chicken strips with a side of honey mustard please.
I agree, a steering dampener is a good device to have.

Never really thought of putting a dampener on the VFR. Please keep us updated when it arrives.

I'm sold on a damper, Anybody know where Son of Woof parks his bike? I have a couple of cousins in Maine who date the same deadhead chicas.

Cat does not taste like chicken. If what is on the plate tastes like chicken it's probably Chihuahua.

I am sure I will love the scotts damper-just not the price-the roads are so bad here-it should help quite a bit over pot holes, sink holes uneven pavement. I know it saved me many times on the R6. But one thing you have to admit the scotts damper is Super Good Looking! I road today and wish I had it on going over a lot of bad roads-it would help my sore hands.:vfrshorty::rockband::ranger:

Bad roads are here to stay, the only thing I can do is adapt to the riding conditions. My solution was new tires, damper and change the fork oil. Nothing that you shouldn't do anyway. And ride around the pot holes which makes me a great rider because it ant easy. The vfr is much better on bad roads then my little 600 was. The vfr is better than my car on bad roads. I know every bump and where to ride over the best part of the road. That's one reason why I killed the idea of lowering the bike-high up is better-even if I am on my toes sometimes. I think I am on the right track. Even the air pressure has to be spot on from the roads, so far best air pressure 33 front-36 back:saturn:

I am running perhaps the Best tire there is for a heavy vfr M5 Metzlers-very nice smooth riding sticky tires-but they look like they will last pretty good. They are almost a waste because I don't really hit curves very hard, but I am getting better all the time. My weight with leathers is less than 200 pounds so I am not taxing the stock suspension, so it actually is working good. I need to change that fork oil out and when I get the damper on that should help a lot by dialing in the speed the front wheel turns-I want to slow it up a little. A damper is great on the highway-you dial up and the bike goes real straight, you barely have to steer then. The M5 only have maybe 120 miles on them still not broken in.:whoo:

I was asking because last year I sent my suspension (fork & shock) to JD to do his magic and we got to talking tires, I told him that I was anxious to get the suspenders back and try with my new to be mounted Michlin PR3's, he said he new that lots of folks liked them but personally he preferred Dunlaps as they were not as stiff, so I was thinking that perhaps a tire that had a softer side wall might be more compliant and a bit of absorption (if that makes sense). Just a thought. By the way, I only weigh about a buck fiddy geared up and JD's suspension made a big improvement to my bikes handling and ride quality.
