My brother arranged it with a welder in Oregon who makes automotive headers. I am pretty sure it would be very expensive to order retail, but the guy owed my brother a favor.

i've been thinking of doing the same thing, making up my own system. a local guy here told me he could probably set me up for bout 500 bucks, at first thought i was "too much" but after i got home... that's actually not too bad. he has a dyno and everything to set it up... which was included in his price...

I've made several different items for the early VF's. Check out my site for more details. The ones listed are the more popular ones but I've done many others. E-mail me if you don't see what you are looking for.

Well, the acceleration is rowdier, that's for sure! However, it still ain't going to beat a CBR. The engine turns about 5000 RPM at 60 MPH in 5th gear now. I was debating going up two teeth in the rear and leaving the countershaft sprocket stock, but the beauty of going to 16T in front is that you can use the same chain - if I don't like the new setup, it's easy to go back to the stock 17T countershaft sprocket. Give it a try.

By far my best mod was the HyperPro emulsion shock. Don't wait until your crappy stock shock gives out. Buy a replacement now and sell the stock unit on eBay for $50 - $80. You won't be disappointed.

Hyperpro shocks are discontinued for the early VF's. There might still be one or two left in inventory so if you want one you had better act quick. Once they are sold out that will be it. A few months ago I checked on VF1000 shocks and there was only one left, I'm sure it's gone by now.

If you cannot find a HyperPro monoshock, Hagon makes one for the VF Interceptor (Part Code No. M61073) I think Works Performance makes one too, but it is expensive (over $700, I recall). If you are like me, there's a break-even point upgrading these old bikes. At that point, I say, "Eh . . . not worth it." Good luck.

Yes, but the Hagon shocks are not in the same league as the Hyperpros. Hagon shocks are tons better than stock but are not intended for performance. That's why I was really bummed when Hyperpro stopped making the VF shocks, for $100 more than a Hagon you got a shock that was at least twice as good.

Don't forget that there is also Bitubo!

Well from what i have been reading in app guides so far the VF700 had a 16T countershaft sprocket up front stock while the VF750 had a 17T Countershaft sprocket...so all i really need is a stock or replacement countershaft sprocket from a VF700 correct? From what i understand all the VF700s were were smaller bored heads and pistons on a VF750 block correct? So with that said it should be safe to assume that i could order a sprocket for the VF700 and it would work right? Also what kind of chain is needed on these bikes?

my understanding is the 700 has a smaller bore and stroke then the 750. i put the stock sprockets on mine, get the rpms down. also its an o-ring chain. sprockets are pretty cheap, the chain is what's pricey. the guy that owned the bike before i got it, had it geared down, gas mileage was terrible, since i put the stock sprockets on, up to just about 45 mpg.

Aftermarket countershaft sprockets are cheap. I bought mine at www.sprocketcenter.com. Slap a 16T on and see if you like it. You can use the stock-length (110) chain. Make sure that you aren't mixing worn out parts with new ones, though.
