I don't know if this has ever been a topic of discussion on here, but I was wondering if someone who has a VFR built in 1998 or PRIOR, could look in their owners manual and see what it says (if anything) about ethanol being used in bikes of this vintage. I did not get a manual with my 98, and I wonder if the 10% ethanol in our fuel is damaging to my bike in any way?
My wife's manual for her 2004 ZX6RR clearly says that 10% ethanol is perfectly fine, and I'm hoping the same can be said about my 98 because it is nearly impossible to find straight up 100% gas where I live.

Here's a link to pure-gas.org for stations that sell gas w/o ethanol. I'm pretty sure this has been posted before in another thread.

Yeh I noticed you had it too ^ high five. I buy this stuff for my viffer and lawn equipment exclusivley and my commuter bike when I can. The station is right down the road so its worth the extra 20 cents a gallon as the bike does not have that "stink" when you shut it off in your garage, that has to mean something not even being a chemist and all. Anyway, ethanol was a bad solution to a percieved problem imho. I have no more hard starts on my lawn two strokes and no more degraded primer bulbs turning to dust in my fingers. :flip: ethanol Cheers

What is the response "it's fine" based on?
And yes....there was something posted before that I finally found, but it did not address my question: what does the Honda owners manual say? Perhaps I'll just order a manual for it....have always wanted one for the bike anyway, just to have it.

I believe the 98 is Ok for up to 10% ethanol. Lower fuel mileage is the only negative result. Greater than 10% will void he warranty on most vehicles built before 2008. Don't take the EPA's word that all vehicles build after 2000 will accept E15, check your owners manual.

The manual specifically states what everyone has said:

Everyone should have a "mann-you-all" for their bike especially if its an extra special bike.

    Fuck ethanol.

Bottom line is any vehicle prior to about 2008ish was not really designed to deal with it - meaning from hoses, gaskets, etc. Never mind the phase separation, stink, mileage, whatever. Its alcohol. It will dry out rubber parts that were not specifically designed to handle it. Whether that means everything is good for 1 year or 10 years, who knows.

    Fuck ethanol.

Would you go for "it's great" or maybe "it's OK" ? I could even make up some shit about the ethanol bonding with the oil and reducing the viscosity to near zero, the ethanol dissolving seals, O-rings and gaskets, the fumes causing male impotence and make it sound like total engine failure and the end of the joys of coitus are imminent.

The dude you just put on the stand could probably tell you where to download a free manual too unless you need a 350 word essay instead of link.

Maybe in fuel but even attempting to do that in some guy's vodka martini might prove hazardous .

Would you happen to have something from the owners manual on regulator/rectifiers?
