Are they necessary on an 85 VF700? I'm confident that all of the internals regarding normal fork function appear to be the same. Assuming I set the oil level perfectly symmetrical and weld over the holes to block the air passage they should operate just like a normal set of forks. My only concern is that the TRAC actuator is only on the left fork leg. Without the crossover tubes only one leg (left) would be adjusted under braking via the TRAC. Am I over analyzing this or think it would be fine to just ditch the crossovers? I have absolutely no intentions on tracking this bike, and it will only see "moderate pace" street use.

Anyone ever attempted to delete the crossovers?

You can delete it no problem and weld the holes. Nothing to do with TRAC.

So when the TRAC is activated I'm assuming it raises the oil level slightly, reducing the air gap in one leg. If there is no crossover, then the airgaps are different under braking? This is a no-return mod, just want to be sure.

Why Paint yourself into a corner?
Cut some rubber Inner Tube and Band Clamp it to seal.
    No one will notice.
Rember that different quantities of Transmission Oil goes into each fork.
The crossover tube keeps the Air Pressure in each Fork Tube Equal on Compression, that won't happen anymore.:grumpy:
The Xover Tube is seen on sale on eBay every once in a while,,..

I had my forks on my 82 cb750k rebuilt and they removed the line and blocked off the holes
