Hi, i was wondering how you guys are lifting your rear wheel? What jack are you unsing??? The commons motorcycles jacks seems to be made for standard bikes while VFR s have a single swingarm. Can you safely lift the rear wheel by linfing with a hydraulic car jack under the muffler??

    Thanks

No i don t have a center stand i think it was an option on 90-93 VFRs. So when you do this you lift just enough so the rear wheel is free and the bike stands on the front wheel and the side stand???

    Thanks

    Yves

Ps: Scubalong i saw on another post you have the shop manual and can copy it. I would like one if you can PM me

egad, man. just order a pitbull single sided swingarm stand. You'll be punching yourself for not purchasing one earlier.

I use a BikeTek single sided rear stand on my bike Yves.

The stand is equipped with bearings in the axle so that you can rotate the rear tire while the bike is on the stand to perform routine maintenance and it's equipped with an internal compression locking mechanism so that the bike can't fall off the stand.
It's also modular as well, you can actually purchase replacement adapter pins to fit various other single sided swingarm model bikes.

You can get them here, click me.>>>http://www.flyncycle.com/street/str...-swingarm-motorcycle-side-stand-pdside-b.html

A purpose-built stand is the best, but if you loosen the lugs first you can use Official Shade Tree Mechanic lifts in a pinch (will need a couple of good tie-down straps).

    Horizontal:
If you have a trailer hitch on a truck or car, or a handy shade tree, you can lever the bike over forward (use the steering lock key position) onto the side stand and use the straps to hold it from the opposite side with the rear wheel off the ground.

    Vertical:
Hang a come-along winch from the rafters in your garage, or a branch in the shade tree and lift it using the straps on both sides of the rear subframe.

    Bottom:
Use the car jack with a block of wood under the engine/exhaust, chock the front wheel and use the tie-down straps on both side from the frame to keep tension so it doesn't fall over sideways.

Used them all, never dropped one.

Good stuff! Made a stand from plumbing pipe for a racebike I had.

Best check those garage rafters in some places....This could lead to some mighty tall explaining if it goes haywire..

There should be a dealer in Montreal somewhere. I know there is one in Toronto and I think it is called Riders Choice??

They are the best / only way to work on these bikes safely. Way back in 1990 I made one for my VFR but I sold it with the bike and later bought a Lockhart Phillips stand as seen below.

That stand went away later when I sold one of my 5th gens as a package and then I picked up a Pitbull so I can use it on Ducatis or on the VFR by just changing the pin.

    Bummer! :eek:hwell:

Doesn't surprise me that the shipping cost is so high though Yves. I once sold a bike part to a guy in Canada and had to severely reduce my selling price just to make it affordable for him because the shipping cost was so exorbitantly high.

Does anybody know why it costs so darned much to ship parts up to Canada? I mean what the heck are the parts trucked up to the Canadian border and from that point on they're delivered by dog sled or something? :noidea:

    Thanks Double O. :high5:

In keeping with that theme here's some additional info about my BikeTek rear stand. The original mounting pin on the rear stand is about 2 1/4 inches long. When I first put the bike on the stand and removed the rear wheel I looked inside the rear axle and noticed that the mount pin did not extend down the entire length of the axle.
I thought to myself that there's some room for improvement here so I had my buddy Pez machine a whole new mounting pin that is 1 3/4 inches longer than the original one.

The axle mounting portion on the pin is now 4 inches in total length. Obviously I had to add a 1 3/4 inch longer threaded rod on the handle assembly to make the compression lock work properly too.

Probably wasn't really necessary but me being the paranoid freak that I am about lifting the bike up in the air I figured it was totally worth the effort.

Well Randy I've got a whole quart of Pink frame paint that I've been saving for something special and I was just surfing on Ebay and found some cool Powerpuff Girls decals.......because I mean you know who doesn't like the Powerpuff Girls.

Thanks for remembering me with the #333 my friend,I appreciate it. :whoo:
