To confess this is what I did to my poor baby over a year ago, She wasn't hurt mechanically & I rode her home:

It took awhile but I now have all the body parts:

    With some extras:

    So the work has begun:

Dumm, Dumm didn't wear a helmet that day. Just going out for a few.....Dumm, Dumm:

Luckily for me I'm married to an awesome lady that stands by my side no matter how dumm Dumm Dumm is and she's a Nurses Assistant.

I have bought, worked on & sold a few bikes while I hunted for VFR parts. But this is the toy I settled on to keep alongside the Honda....and the wife of course.

It would seem a new helmet is worth its weight in diamonds- I bought a brand new tight fighting helmet-most people ride around with a loose fitting helmet and it can fall off in a bad accident-I never ride on the street without a helmet :cower::ballchain::der::boink:

Ten hail Marys for the crash, fifty hail Marys for not wearing a helmet, and put some holy water onto the scar to remind yourself to always wear protective gear... ;)

Sorry to hear about the crash. Glad to hear you're OK and fixing your bike.

I like the helmet. It reminds me of one I've seen before somewhere... ;)

Kudos on the repair and glad you're OK from the mishap. Based on the photo it looks like your head was hard enough to protect your brain but not hard enough to keep you from learning! Ride safe and ATGATT :vtr2:

You were lucky/blessed to come out as well as you did. Get a skull and cross bones keychain and cut out a section of the skull, this should remind you not to even start it without your helmet...dumb dumb. Look forward to seeing the bike back together.

Naa, I get reminded enough when people I don't know at a 7-11 or parts store or wherever say:
Hey you have some purple chalk or something on your head.
Dumm Dumm: Oh that's just a scar.
Person: No really go look in a mirror I think someone is playing a joke on you.
Dumm Dumm: Goes into mirror to make said person happy. Comes back out to explain why Dumm Dumm has purple scar for being dumb and not wearing a helmet while riding.
    2014-03-29_07-53-04_12.jpg

A little light went on in my head while it was grinding on that pavement that faithful day.
I'll never forget that :homer: moment.
I don't ever throw a leg over without full body coverage. Riding jeans, jacket & a HELMET. Matter fact I now have a couple helmets, jackets & jeans. [New custom paint job coming up on one of the helmets. But the artist doing it is a month out on jobs. Yes it will include a bullet bike in the paint scheme, maybe the VFR..future post will follow.]
No little charm needed. But that is a good idea to put a small sticker like that on the VFR somewhere as a conversation piece.

You could have your helmet painted to look like your bloody noggin (I know, gross) , that would get peoples attention!

The only time I ride witbout the helmet is after I have stopped and opened the garage door, when I usually remove gloves and helmet the pull the bike into the garage. Even that is not right.
Many years ago (25 or so) I was riding my mountain bike on a quiet road. It was hot and no traffic. I just put the helmet back on then did a header over the bars and cracked the helmet. Lesson well learned. Been dealing with neck issues ever since but the head is still intact. Physically at least.

Well then, looks like you have officially shed the Dumb Dumb moniker. We all screw up, it's what we learn, or don't learn that determines whether we live longer. Good on ya.

When my son was born, I put a small picture of him on the tach to remind me of what's more important...riding at 100% or him. Worked great and I've slowed to a life stretching 70% for many Fathers Days to come.
