Hello all! I have had this bike for a few months, bought it before i bought a house and have just since worked my over to it in my garage. It is fairly clean, I will post pictures of it soon! I bought it non running, from a very big motorcycle enthusiast. He loved the bike and had a hard time getting rid of it.. Seems it met the fate of all the old bikes with owners who became too busy to ride, the carbs are gummed up to the point she wont run, and everything hydraulic needs to be rebuilt (calipers master cyls clutch master/slave ect) I bought it as a project.. it is also my first (street) motorcycle. I am very mechanically inclined, and am not worried about those. The carbs, I was hoping to send out. I have read a lot of things good and bad of sending them to a particular person from Texas, and a lot of good from a member of this forum. I know it will at least need a new fuel tube or so... and haven't really dived into them much. I want to get the bike running before i do anything else along the lines of rebuilding the rest. I really love the looks of this bike and from what i understand the sound of this engine is absolutely incredible. A lot of people have offered to buy it sight unseen just because of what it is apparently! I know I could have just went to a showroom and bought a new or newer bike, but like anyone who knows me knows... thats not my style. So, if anyone can share with me what they did carb wise, I would love to hear her fire up. After that, I look forward to doing the rest and learning more about this machine from this amazing forum! Thank you in advance!

    - Matt

I'll offer to professionally clean your carbs, as i've done for many members here, both faster and less-expensively than anyone you can find. I love carb work aND have over 40 years experience working on carbs, 25 years on VFRs and VFs.

That would be Excellent Squirrelman! I would appreciate that very much. They are already off the bike and careful care was taken to make sure all the pieces and parts are there. The fuel tubes i believe at least one or two were cracked or broken before i even began. Please, let me know how to proceed with the process! Thank you very much!

Hmmm...the only time Ratboy doesn't tell a new 1st gen owner to sell his his piece of junk and buy a newer bike is when he wants to take his money. Funny how that works.

You can do the carbs yourself. Incredibly easy with a little patience. Put that $300 into forks seals, chain, sprockets, etc, etc.

Squirrelman recently finished my carbs for my '86 700 and they work beautifully. Good work and his customer service doesn't end when he finishes the job. Didn't cost me no $300 either....

Just puzzled why you sent your carbs out for cleaning if it's so drastically easy ?

I'm offering a USEFUL SERVICE for a reasonable price to my mates on VFRW, nuttin wrong with that, hippiehopi.

Billy did my first set many moons ago, then I discovered how incredibly easy it is to do them myself. The only way to do them better is with an ultrasonic cleaner.

I'm not talking about other gen carbs that you've done. Do I need to post up the dozens of disparaging comments you've made about 1st gens and their owners? Interesting use of the term "mates" if you ask me. Doubt they feel like mates.

My original 2 statements are indisputable...
..."funny how that works" and "you can do the carbs yourself."
