Is one fuel manager better than the others? That is, am I better off buying a power commander, or a Bazzaz, or a Juice Box, etc. ? Any quality issues with these? Is there another not mentioned that is superior? Carbs. and jets made sense to me, but I'm being carried kicking and screaming into the 21st. century.
    Thanks

Skip the box, look at the tuning software. If you cant use the software then you cant take advantage of the box.

That said, every tuner (me included) has their favorite. We know it inside and out and can make it do everything as promised. Ex these days I use AEM modules. I use to use Ontronic modules but they sold to AEM.

You also need to know the difference of each box. The PC system is a piggy-back system. You keep the oem ecu and plug in the PC to change the output signals. It works and is a workable system for riders that have an efi bike and dont want to know practically everything of how efi works.
Modules like AEM, bazzaz, mega-squirt and juicebox are ecu replacements. You must hack into your harness or make your own. IMHO its better to make your own but you need to know a lot about systems design. Also if your on a 6th gen and use a ecu replacer then the stock guages may not work. Eg the oem ecu outputs a frequency dependant tach signal but sends speedo information in a form of can bus protocol. So you will have to either convert or decode signals to make them work. I havent had a chance to check other gens to see if they are the same.

After considering all that, choose: piggy back system or full ecu replacement. Then look at programming software. Try out the software and then get a module for the software you like.

PC5 + autotune is my choice. Running it on the R1 (it's perfect) and will be running it on the 1200 as soon as Guhl gets the ECU flash sorted.

I have fitted the Bazzaz Z FI TC to my 2010 FA it has transformed it and I would highly recommend it. The fitting is somewhat involved but it is supplied with good instructions and purpose made supplementary looms and fittings.

If you mean ignition control in respect of 1st/2nd gear restriction then no, youll need the Z-bomb or make your own (£3 sterling for plugs from china) The only ignition control is in respect of the quickshifter.

No, it doesnt interfere with ignition timing, only the air/fuel ratio

Bazzaz isn't a standalone. It's just another fuel only piggy back.

Yes it is a piggy back system, I never inferred otherwise, and just like the rapid bike offers different levels (easy, evo, racing vs Z Fi, Z Fi Qs, Z Fi TC)
When I initially looked at systems, Rapidbike only offered the KRBEA-030 Easy system for the VFR1200, which is the entry level system.
both Rapid and Bazzaz are used in MotoGp though not all manufacturers will admit to it.

I do not see any real reason to fit a rapid bike to a vfr1200 over any other piggy back especially with the ecu reflash around the corner. But, with the 800s that benefit majorly from added ignition advance and the rapid bike 2 being the only option for adding advance, there really is question of the rapid bike being superior to power commander and bazzaz that are just fuel only.

After riding round on Hondas "unfinished" (IMO) 2010 model 1200 for the last 3 years with the fuelling issues, any system that gives improvement is very welcome. Bazzaz was my choice at the time and it has finished what Honda started. The rapidbike is only available as an O2 sensor signal management unit at present. I've been hearing that there will be an ECU reflash for months now but nothing solid in the UK. Glad the Rapidbike system is working for you.
