    Hi Guys,

I have a 2005 Viffer 800 and this morning on the way to work my headlights decided not to come on.

Stop after 40kms for a break, jumped back onto the bike and they started working.

Got to the local coffee shop after another 50km and once i got back on the bike they decided to not come back on again.

Where should i start to try and solve this problem.

Not even the high beems work when the lights don't come on but if i press the passing switch they do work ?

They are brand new bulbs and have been working perfectly until now. has me sort of stumped.

    Thanks in advance

    Simon

Have your bike have all the recall done especially the Wiring Harness.
Check the connectors to see if any sign of burn or loose.

Scubalong - I ahve had the recall all done and i have just pulled connectors off and gave them a quick clean with some contact cleaner.

Rjgti - is it a hard job to clean out the starter switch ?

Look at the fuse for the headlight, you may find it is loose.

Just had this problem on my 86. Was the starter switch. Try playing with it a bit see if it flickers. Solution was pretty simple. Picked up some electrical contact cleaner at the auto parts store. Cracked the handle housing thing open and just soaked down the switch. Been working fine for a month now.

It hangs up and doesn't fully return. Usually more of a wear issue than a dirt issue. Just get in the habit of giving it a little flick after startup.

Make sure power is off. Let cleaner evaporate before trying.

Thanks for all your replies guys. I can confirm it was the switch, wiggled it abut and the lights came on and off so pulled it apart last night, all cleaned and regreased.

    Working perfectly this morning.

Thansk again for all your help.
