if its a $3000 bike w/ $1200 in repairs insurance agent might call it totalled and give you bluebook for the bike, you lose the bike that way though, not sure you can demand repairs or not but a watch out. and F your neighbor, he hit your bike, lucky he gets off w/out a beating.

You usually can buy back the bike from the insurance co at a reduced price if it is totaled though right?

Airtech is making 5th gen plastics now plus a whole range of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gen plastics.
-- No experience with them, but its nice to have an alternative.

Before auctions they usually give you a buy back price so they can avoid the hassle. Best to remove farkles before inspection lest you lose them.

I wouldn't worry about power commanders but I wouldn't let them photograph the more obvious bits and give an estimate of value because once they do they could potentially demand that the bike be collected with the red piping seat on it (sargent), custom brake levers etc.

Then when if it must go to auction (I don't think so) or if you can't buy the bike back (again don't think so) you'll not have lost the goodies. A power commander can be yanked after photos without any harm or foul.

Uh, this is all presuming you live in US.

If a total loss might be declared he'd want to know his options.

And since he's likely deciding on whether to go through insurance based on some of these possibilities I think it's wise for him to know.
Note that if it does get declared a total loss it will be given a salvage title whether the frame is bent or not. That will effect resale value big time. Take pics to show this to future buyers and ask for repair receipts that delineate what exactly has been done. Also the insurance co can provide a statement of values for repair estimate (just ask the adjuster).
I did a quick google and stories abound of bikes getting totaled and ins co's offering a buy back price upon request.

The airtech stuff isn't plastic, it's fiberglass. So if it gets impacted at all it's gonna explode vs just crack. It comes unfinished, so you'll be left doing drilling decals paint etc... my last order from them had a 2 month lead time. Was probably cause middle of summer. I would give beaseley a shot if you cant get OEM.

I think we can blame billy for this one. Im not sure how well or long it will stick, but we might as well for the s&g factor.

Is s&g anything like s&m? Nobody yet has done the "Billy, Billy, Billy, you must like s&m" thing, Not very original but unused here so far.. With a little creativity there are some really spiffy Latin names for STDs that also remain unused. Nothing in Klingon either. ;)

S&g is shits and giggles, as for the s&m. Dont knock it until youve tried it. Maybe youll enjoy it! Or is that what your afraid of?
We will leave naming std's to you.

I was hoping there might be some examples of combining all four. Most of the STD have Latin names to begin with. Other more clever names have been around for hundreds of years. It looks as if I was expecting too much originality again.

As one who is a staunch believer in democracy for all, if one is so inclined, even voting for one's favorites is possible.

Each state has it's own regulations set by the state insurance commissions and commissioners. Same with each state'

s regs from the various iterations of the DMV on titles. Many are clones or very similar but not all. Best to check.

Anybody have any pix, evidence or anything supporting the theory that fiberglass explodes on impact? If this were even partially factual, fiberglass would be banned for use on racebikes. The Airtech products are better described as ready for paint rather than unfinished.

I sure hope they don't ban Corvettes for exploding since they have been "glass" since 1954. Many other examples.

For some other examples and tech stuff on fiberglass (the cloth) and the various resins and other fibrefarkles, see: www.systemthree.com
