What kind of milage are you seeing out of your chain? I have between 5 & 6K on mine & am nearly out of adjustment; seems excessive. I just think the chain should last for atleast two tires; is my thinking off? I adjust it to 5/8" deflection as soon as it deflection exceeds 1 1/2" per manual, so its not like I'm over adjusting & always when its cool never after a ride. Always lube the chain when it gets "shiny" or after a long ride when its still hot.

I have 30K on my stocker. I still have adjustment and I regularly lube with 90 wt gear oil. This season is the exception; I have bought some BelRay lube. My sprockets look fine too.
Perhaps your sprockets are shot and you're killing your chain with them?

I also had almost 30K on my stock set, but changed chain & sprockets out @ the same time. I'm not impressed with the wear I've gotten out of this chain @ all, my 560 mile ride yesterday I adjusted the chain before leaving to 5/8" deflection & @ the end of the day had almost 2" seems ridiculous. I'm going to try & contact the manufacture(Tsubaki) & see if I can get some assistance towards a new one as I paid $130 for the chain & have maintained it properly.

Hi, can't remember the manufacturer's recommendations on this off hand, but to me 5/8th " is far, far too tight..you're not only wrecking your chains, but also your sprockets, and more importantly your output shaft bearings.

I've 31000 miles on my original chain, been fitted with a Scottoiler since new and still plenty life left in it . A chain should last 15000 miles + even with normal spray lubing.

Hey Rogue, pardon my ignorance, but what is a "Scottoiler"?

5/8" is what is stated in the owners manual; what would you suggest?

Bottom run on side stand w/ no load(rider off) as indicated in my owners manual.

Off subject but what do you get for a set of your bar risers?

5/8" is kinda tight - I go about 3/4 to an inch. I seem to remember the manual suggests 25mm.

Can someone PLEASE do a pictorial how to with the steps to properly adjust a chain? every time i do it, it seems its either too loose or too tight after i ride it a bit, but seems fine when i tighten up the eccentric bolt. I dont know what the hell is the problem. My chain also seems to be too tight in some parts, and after rotating it, its too loose. What can be the problem? Time for a new chain and sprockets perhaps? I have 22,500 miles on the bike, got it with 18,500 a few months ago. I particularly would like to see pictures showing how the adjustment looks next to a measuring tape and where to measure. THank you!

Ah one of the tricks, if it hasn't been mention as I didn't read all the posts is, in a perfect world 5/8" is just right, thing is chains never wear evenly so yea 3/4" -1" maybe even more as thats in the tightest spot on the chain. but here's the trick. check it when your on the bike. yes will take a couple folks, but once done then you'll know what the off bike slack will need to be.
I Just replaced stock chain here about 2K back, had 31K on it.
