Billy, I have faith that you can overcome this. If I can quote a little Yoda "try not, just do" (less).

Does Yoda mean to stop copying and pasting web pages that are funny ?

Besides that, Yoda never speaks parenthetically and he has one of those nifty light sabres that cuts through all manner of bullshit.

    All ahead full! Flunk speed!

Cool, thanks :) That is one thing that I find hard to do when riding is to not dwell on the mistakes I make. I get frustrated if I botch a corner or make a big mistake but have to remind myself to just chill out and get back into the groove. I try to just ride as relaxed as possible. It's also easy to get hung up trying to ride FAST, and it doesn't usually end up working out in your favour. I remember my first ever AMA race at Infinneon, I was a full second or so off the qualifying time needed and I was getting really frustrated with myself. Our session for qualifying was almost up and I feared I wouldn't make the cut, I was trying so hard to ride fast. Finally a friend of mine (also a coach with CSS) pulled me aside and reminded me that I was there to have fun and to RELAX. I went out and did two laps concentrating on being as relaxed as possible and having as much fun as I could. I thought I had gone slower and was astounded to find out that I had in fact gone quite a bit faster and had made the cut. Point being that often when you try to ride fast or you try too hard you end up riding slower. When then does it feel like you are riding faster when you aren't? ;)

Ah the high horse. Some people actually get a lot out of this type on discussion, if you don't feel free to crap elsewhere. This girl has taught more in a month than you have learned in all of your "15 courses a year combined. Rant over. lol

I think people can be intimidated by the speed, the feel, and the machine. They think that to be a good rider they must be so focused that they eventually become stiff. They think that it is them that is keeping that motorcycle upright. Its like a plane, people think that when the engine quits the plane falls out of the sky, nope, it is still a plane!

When new horse riders are learning to do english riding, the instructor will take away their reigns so they have to focus on steering the horse with their body. Likely motorcycle riders could benefit from the same experience. Pop the bike in nuteral, take their hands off the bars, and suprise, bike keeps going straight. Now its up to them to keep it straight or make that slight bend.

If someone is manhandling a motorcycle I want to ask why. The whole point is to enjoy it. Lighten up, look around, woop outloud to yourself, relax.

Mr Gator, now who is trigger happy?
You have missed my point and that is ok. I know that it wasnt meant for you and that you wouldnt understand. As for teaching, well you have proven that your not interested in making sure that your knowledge, limited like the rest of us, get taught in appropriate settings. The internet is not a place to teach motorcycle skills. That is for in person, like the plane mentioned above, some things you need proper instruction in the proper place to learn properly.

Since this is an open discussion forum, if you dont want adverse commentary then simply dont post.
Im sure Misti is a good teacher, ICBC doesnt let just anyone teach anymore so that alone speaks volumes. And your right, I dont crank them out at the same pace, but for very different reasons. Im sure that if I ever get home to Vancouver for more than a week at a time I would most likely look into her course and see what I can learn from her. I have learned that there is no right way to learn, no teacher can teach it all and no system is fool proof. So in case you never noticed, I only gave my input on the medium chosen and I even answered her question.
I may have been sitting high, but at least I gave an intelligent and if not useful at least non offensive opinion.

Gotta figure that Gator is really fast riding 3600 miles for a lesson. This leads me to my oft told "Gator" joke.

Two stoners are sitting on a pier in Florida, One says, "Dude, a gator just bit my leg off."
The other stoner says, "Dude, which one? "
Stoner #1 says, Dude if ya seen one gator you've seen em all."

I tend to over think everything. I find that my worst lines are in the fast, long sweepers, where I will change my angle of attack three or four times. In tighter twisties I don't have time to second guess my line so I tend to be more fluid and relaxed.

That is simply silly Zen. Of coarse you can teach a lot about motorcycle riding in books, the net, discussions. Kieth Code is a member of another forum and has taught a lot via the net. I have learned a lot from good discussions on the net about motorcycles and applied the skills to the track and street. Also many of my other hobbies have been enriched by the net. If you think that then don't wast your time in threads that you can't get anything out of. Others do learn something.

Really Billy? I expected so much more. Is there a basement or gutter or anything goes thread in this forum? I love to banter and hose each other in those threads.
3600 miles for a lesson? Barber race track is the farthest I have gone for a track day. I take that back, Mid Ohio this last summer. I do want to take Ken Hill's Yamaha Champion school in Vegas. A lot of friends have done it and say it is excellent. Just take the insurance waiver so if you wad one of their bikes.

We could change the stoners to male nudists if that is what you are looking for as more. As to "anything goes" Yes, there is a thread. It's called "Anything Goes." Personally I am not into hosing but to each his or her own.

Your statement that "she" has taught more guys....." then is somewhat inflated since you were not there and are recapitulating another post written by someone else.

All the schools seem to be great according to the students and much better than reading books, watching vids and trying to justify abstracts.

Me? I like the Kenny Roberts school of thought. "If you can ride the dirt you can ride the asphalt."

Another POV might be since most of the "schools" seem to be centered on going fast ya sure miss a lot of scenery and in my hood that could get you a quick trip up the ass of a 600lb elk all tucked in, dragging that puck and doing a fine line. Thus establishing that in some circles less is indeed more.

I have done the track thing and enjoyed myself immensely but real world street riding is a world apart. In my neighbor hood I might not be inclined to center punch and elk but plenty of other hazards await the boy racer. That curve may hide a slow moving tractor, a dropped pile of rotting hay or massive mud clods tracking out of freshly plowed field. I like to power through the corners like the next guy but I owe it to some people very close to be to temper my riding with common sense. It end to miss the scenery even in a more reserved riding attitude since I am hyper focused on the road.

I don't haul ass on the roads anymore. Occasional a little spirited on mountain twisties but even up there I'm enjoying the ride. A surprising number of friends from another more track orientated forum are giving up the street for track only. I don't think I will ever be able to do that, but for hauling ass and not getting arrested the track is awesome.

A few elk on those North Texas roads would cure that hay on the road in a hurry. Tractors, tree trimmers, brush cutters and the like pale before logging truck that sometimes appear from side roads and pass ya in the nest mile or two at way over the limit.

Scenery is best appreciated whilst standing still and even taking a leak at the same time. Nature at it's best.

The clinical aspects of hyperfocal are interesting.

Darned if I can find any of those mountains in Florida. Maybe I just punched the wrong button on my map when looking for topography.

If ya really go for the books buy some from my buddy Dave Hough.

There are guys who don't street ride who race. The question would be then, if you don't see yourself in that same mindset, why waste your time on that sort of forum?

Gotta tell ya pal, track days are nothing new. Tracks including test tracks have been for rent for years. Even some of the famous tracks like Willow Springs had access for nothing.

I hope no one here will try that as a defense if they get busted by a smoky at the side of the road.

this is where our canadian fore fathers had thought it almost through. It is legal to take a leak on the side of a hiway (or other road) if it is done on the front left tire of your vehicle. Since a bike has no such thing as a front left tire, there is legal precedence to use a substitute. Mr Smokey can try but unless your in a residential area or by a school best he can do is obstructing traffic. Now im sure our smokey and extinguished smokeys will shed some more light on this, but I know that the law exists and has joy been retracted nor had sucessful counter suit yet.
