I don't see why not. I have seen people use several different options. The main thing is making sure you wire it right. ;)

Check with Jack Flemming at Roadstercycle.com. He sells kits for MOSFET units by same manufacturer as Yamaha's.

Make sure wiring and connections are 100%, if R/R and stator are bad, it is because of wiring problems, not the other way around.

The guy from wiremybike that sells the kits to beef up the R/R wiring on the VFR actually offered to make a kit with the plugs and wires set to use the R1 reg on the VFR for me when I was doing mine. I meant to do it, but it has been working for 4 years give or take with just the little spade connectors you see above so I never switched.

Just a note , I had a r/r laying around that I purchased to convert my Yamaha Blaster ATV to battery.
I found that this r/r is NOT the same as the 3 phase (3 wire stator) r/r used in most Street/Enduro and many dirtbikes.
The difference the is that the Blaster as well as alot of off-road bikes has a single coil stator and only 2 wires feeding the r/r .

If you're buying a universal r/r make sure it is a 3 phase r/r identified by three a/c input wires or by being specified for a vehicle that uses a 3 wire stator/ externally regulated alternator.

I have placed an order from Eastern Beaver for rectifier plug and wires but since he is in Asia somewhere I don't know how long it will take. What cables did you use from the rectifier to the stator and the power? I was thinking of using 10 gauge with spade connectors and soldering them to the Stator. But what cable? Solid conductor? 15 strand copper? Where did you get it?

He is based in Japan. Orders normally take 2 weeks to the uk if that helps.

But what kind of cable did you guys use to connect your R/R? Not the factory cables on the harness correct?
