Kind of a crazy question. Has anyone thought of or has anyone actually moved their exhaust from the right side to the left side to expose the rear wheel? I have seen it done on older model VFRs, anyone seen it done on a 5th generation (2000). Would it cause any issues with maintanence (chain, tire removal,..) New to VFRs, so if my question sounds crazy, my oppoliges. Thanks.

I think Tinkers rear mod would be the way i would go if wanting to expose the wheel. Looks great.

I saw Tinks set up, very nice but a little too time consuming for me. I am into instant gratification! Just looking for a pipe bender in Austin Tx. To bend me a pipe to mod the back exhaust. Either high with a mid pipe or move to the left side.

Have you thought about just using a high mount on the right side? Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but opens up the right quite a bit. And all that takes is a mid pipe and probably a half hour of work to install. That's about as instant as you can get.

Thats just what I am looking for, but how would I go about it?? High Mid pipe to the LEFT side..any suggestions. I know they sell mid pipes, but do you think it would be a big deal to run it to the left VS the right?? Thanks.

Big deal to move to the left? Yes. To the right? No.

Here's a not so good picture of mine. You can see it really opens the right side up.

That looks really good! If thats my only option, that would work. I just like how the earlier models show the whole rear tire on the right side, with the exhaust run to the left side. Greedy I guess, it's just that thats what I liked about the VFRs when they first came out, that single swing arm and exposed rear wheel...

Thank Kelvis. I'm sure there's a fair amount of options out there for the high mount exhaust, as long as you're leaving it on the right side. Mine is a Two Brothers system. You either need to have a pipe bent, or depending on the manufacturer, see if they offer a mid-pipe to make the upward swing.

Its not your only option, but you would definitely need to get creative in order to move it completely to the left side.

I agree with Kelvis that a LH exit is by far the best.

However, LH systems are rare and expensive if you can find them so most of us go for this as a compromise. Note that if you are turning to the left, it exposes even more of the sexy rear wheel so take not of where the LH turns are if you want to show yer rear end off!

No, it's not your only option, but it is the easiest. You could have a custom midpipe made and run it out on the left. But the cheapest and the fastest would be to do a highmount right.

With the high mount, don't think of it as hiding the top of the wheel. Think of it as a accent! Here is my high mount. I only use it for around town, when I tour I use a low mount Delkevic.

A left exit exhaust for the 5th gen has been my Holy Grail for 10 years. If it works on the 3G, 4G and RC45 it can be made for the 5th gen. All it takes is an experienced pipe bender, a little patience and some $$.

The RC45 has the closest config to our RC46, but they're all pretty similar.

Here's some pics of the earlier gens left exit routing. Have a pipe bender modify the 5th gen routing to match this. That's my plan when I win a couple $K on the lotto.
