May I have a consensus on the drops done in the desert. I mean reeeeeally, Scuba's riding a dual sport in a place called Death Valley, and he lived to tell the tale and even posted up pics of his shoulder x-rays. I think that earns him a pass on the Death Valley drops. What say you all?????

I think Ewan McGregor must hold the record on his trip!

Do "almosts" count? Getting used to the VFR, I started to make a left turn and it decided to start to fall, ended up doing a 360 while pushing with my left leg, luckily no one saw me, they would have died laughing.

Most embarrassing drop, on my way to motorcycle test in 1970 on my 305 scrambler, went over a temp bridge covered with mud, splat! in front of a bunch of workers.

I dropped my Norton twice so far in 15 years of ownership. The first time was a real surprise. I was putting it on the center stand. It went up and over and then leaned away from me as I frantically tried to keep it upright. The center stand broke in half. The second time I rode into the yard on my Norton running less than 2 miles an hour. Grabbed at the wooden front brake and immediately found myself looking at the grass close up and personal through my helmet visor. It just went down in an instant. It felt really stupid and it was.

As for the VFR, I was riding with friends last summer. We had pulled into a scenic turn out to take pictures and were ready to go. I was about 4th in line. It was an uphill grade with a bit of loose gravel. My turn came, I gave it some gas, let the clutch out, it coughed, farted, died and rolled back until first gear held it. Then it began to go over. It was a slow layover with me just putting it as gently as I could on the ground. Then I rolled off and lay on my back all in one fluid motion. I bent my clutch lever and jarred the amber turn signal lens out of its socket but that was it. The people I was with helped me and the bike up. I wasn't the only one to put their bike down on that trip.

4 total on the VFR in like three years time. I have never dropped any other bike I have owned this many times...

1 trying to put it on center stand by myself...not real smart

2 I dunno wtf but I remember my foot being caught underneath it...

3 In the rain overnight neighbor calls and says your bike in on it's side...

4 Riding/maneuvering it late in the evening from the front yard to the backyard after a few too many...

Maybe 5 it seem like the side stand sunk in the ground once in the backyard too...

Every time on grass hehe got a mirror and brake lever though...

I am less concerned about his fails....er falls and injuries than I am about the image he portrays riding a Honda to Harley Doodz. Like Really. The absolute shame of that!

I thought the 1970 Rambler was a 302? And the embarrassing thing is not the spill on that, it is getting caught driving one.

Sure. Why not? You parked it there so it is your doing. Besides, this is not scientific. Shit! I may even change the rules on this in a few days, weeks, months....or what ever...just cause I can!

Back in 85 on a trip to Oregon was going threw a town called Susan-ville on my 84 Interceptor (first over the road trip after we left Laguna ) so we stop at a traffic light and a bug with two cute blonde's invite us to a
Bas-co Feast-co town shin-dig---freeeeee booze. So I down about four Cuba Libras and get on my bike to leave a gravel parking lot , put up the kick stand and over I go...buddy picks me up , I get on my bike and dump the clutch with half the throttle, spray everything with gravel within a 10 foot wobbly take off.Thats #1
Just bought my 2002 VFR in 2010 and took it over to a friends apartment to install wheel tape, done with the wheels, turned out perfect, buddy says goodbye, leaves as I put on my helmet. Get on my bike, back it out of his parking spot and with my left leg extended forward, I glance a fucking steal pole with my right rear turn signal over I go in a flash, trapped under the bike, I yell for my friend to come over and help.......Had to ride home over an hour SOOOO pissed off I was seeing red. Thats #2 in 30 years. Knock on wood

    Let me ask my mother.
As we all know, when we drop our bikes we don't want anyone to see us, much less other riders. This time my leg was pinned by the weight of the bike and I was in a position that prevented me from reaching a good spot on the bike to move it out of the way and free my leg up. Funny thing is, I was in pain and screaming for help like a little girl until a co-worker came to my aid. :frusty::frusty:
This happened just a few days before my scheduled Colorado trip. I left to Colorado with my foot still in pain and swollen.

Sometimes reading other people's posts opens doors of long locked rooms in my head and I remember stuff. Back in the late 70s I was living in a house with three other guys. We are all motorcycle mad. The house was old, huge, drafty, cheap and had a garage big enough for all our bikes so it was good. Rod had a fancy, tricked out, BMW R90 with every go fast option known to man. He also partied very hard. One late morning he was almost back to the house when he stopped at the stop sign a block from our drive way. He fell over. He tried to get back on but each time he fell off the other side. An older lady pulled up behind him, witnessed the display and asked if he needed help. (I think this was like a Sunday morning.) He said 'Ma'am, If you can hold the bike steady, as I climb on board, I can make it home. She held the back of the bike by the rear fender. He got on, got it started and rode on to the house. He could ride but he couldn't walk.

(Disclamer: This story in no way condones or approves the combination of motorcycles and the consumption of adult beverages.) Always ride sober.

    lets see

    1. 1987 EX500 - slide it into and thru a road sign post. Blamed "that dang 'possum" when the police showed up. Had nothing to do with lack of experience and too hot into a corner.

    2. 1995 GSXR750 - picked up my first new bike from the dealer in NYC, rode it 5 miles up the road towards home. Promptly locked the from wheel on some gravel and was lucky enough to some how get on my feet running after my bike. Just in time to watch it slide on down the road into a curb in central park.

    3. Took that same GSXR750 and shipped it overseas when stationed in Korea with the air force. Once again, locked the front wheels on a huge oil slick in the road. the bike and I ended up underneath the rear bumper of a Hyundai Sonata.

    4. 1996 Ducati 900ss - them damned kickstands are spring loaded?!!

5 and 6. after an almost 12 year stretch of not dropping anything... lifted my FZR1000 off its side stand from the left side of the bike. It passed the center of gravity. I pulled and pulled but bad leverage and 550+lbs of bike eventually went over. Too bad that it was parked next to my 92 GSXR. which went next, domino effect. then I went next, landed on top of the FZR.

    7. 93 VFR about 1 or 2 years ago. Put on my brand spankin' new Penske shock. Time for a test ride. So started backing out of my old sloped driveway. Turned the bars to the right, forgot there was a dip at the end of the driveway. Man that bike is heavy when you're trying to hop on your left leg and trying to fight gravity.

    8. Last night... took the forks off my 92 GSXR for new seals and caliper rebuild. Instead of using my front stand that holds it by the steerer/stem, I decided to use jack stands on the lower frame rails - more working room. At the same time, I decided to leave the rear on a swing arm stand take the rear wheel off to replace the sprockets and chain. this started the slow motion see-saw action over the jack stands. Had to bolt the rear wheel back on with the bike on its side. Lucky the fairings were off but one of the header tubes took a beating.

You have just made the case for why fitting proper frame sliders to a VFR is a good idea. Not only do they protect the bike, by providing a small amount of stand-off, they also minimise the risk of you being trapped under a fallen bike.
