For the past couple of years I've been thinking about replacing my stock exhaust and keep thinking how good an underbelly system would look. Unfortunately, there is no such thing available. Has anyone ever seen or heard of a custom made one? A v4 makes this a challenge and space is limited but I think I have a couple of designs that might work. My question is in which order to connect the cylinders. The stock set up for a VFR 800 with a180 degree crank is to join the diagonal cylinders two into one and then those pipes join into one. A 360 degree crank engine joins the front two cylinders and then the rear two cylinders. After studying pictures of the new 2014 800 I noticed it is set up like a 360 degree engine.
I'm pretty sure the new 2014 is using the same exhaust as the crossrunner in the picture.*
Would that work on a 5th gen? If so an underbelly exhaust maybe easier to do. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Planning to sacrifice the center stand?

I would like to make something longer that starts at the front of the oil pan and ends before the rear tire, narrow enough to fit between the centrestand . Something like a Buell or a Panigale. This means new header pipes as well all done with stainless.
This is a rough idea of what I'm thinking.

Just ditch the center stand so you can build a better exhaust with out any compromises. Later on once everything is done, see if you can fab up a temporary center stand just for maintenance. I got lucky with my exhaust, even though I ditched the stand for installation of the full exhaust and it won't work permanently, i can still slap it on and put bolts through for maintenance.

Here are the dimensions for the fifth gen full race exhaust, so you have something to go off of...

Seems like there's real potential there. You do that model yourself?

    CandyRedRC46,
Thanks for the info. You're probably right but I hate to loose the centrestand, I hardly ever use the side stand. As for pipe diameter, I'd like to find any ss system and use the primaries from that to save costs. It should be shorter and more free flowing than stock so smaller size is okay.I'm not expecting an increase in performance just better looks and maybe a bit lighter.

    tinkerinWstuff,
Yeah the plasticine is my poor man's autocad, quicker and easier for me anyway. I made that one about a year ago and changed it a dozen times since then but keep coming back to it as the best design. I guess the next step is a full size mockup out of tin or aluminum and find some SS materials. Unfortunately I don't have many metalworking tools and will have to see how much I can hire done without breaking the budget. Anyone know where to find a set of ss headers that could be cut up for primaries stock or aftermarket? My 2000 cat system is supposed to be ss but they are black and beginning to rust, polished would be nicer.
