A couple of us on the yahoo VF1000R forum have been discussing the possibilty and myself and a couple others have emailed Dale Walker over at Holeshot Performance. They made one of the 4-1 header systems back in the 1980`s for our bikes.

He needs a stock bike close to him for measurements, etc.

One of the guys on that email list (Mark) is within 80 miles of Dale and has offered his bike and his Hindle 4-1 header with SSR silencer and also his stock VF1000R exhaust system for this purpose.

Then there is the issue of if is it cost effective. Dale doesn`t know at this point if he can make it cost effective so there is a real possibilty that this will never happen. I think we have all seen over the years ideas like this where a possibility exists to make something for our bikes but we need folks to commit...and then it never happens because there just isn`t the interest or cash flow to make it happen.

Just throwing this out there. May not even make it of the ground.

    What do you all think?

First let me say that yes Im friggin jealous as hell that you have 3, not 1 or two but 3 VF1000s.....

I think youre right. I don't think there are enough to make a profit for this to be cost effective.

Whoops! Guess I need to update my info. I'm down to 2 V4's. My Mutant VF1000R and my VF1000F. The CB1100F rounds out the three bikes I have now.

No info either way. I have no promise it will even happen. Can it be built so it is cost effective to make and also so the people will buy? That is the million dollar question.

My best guess is it would look similar to the original from back in the '80's.

Just got another email from Dale Walker. I'll be sending him links to this forum and others. He is looking to gauge interest for this.

Pretty sure they are very similar, if not actually identical, to this. Pretty sure I remember that the Sudco and DW were the same thing. The Sudco were rebranded DW? Actually, I guess Tom could ask... not that it really matters.

I asked if the system would be the same as the Hindle/Holeshot system from back in the 80's and here is what Dale had to say:

"Years ago I was the west coast importer for Hindle, then he let me private label that pipe Tom.

The best thing to do would make a back half system maybe cost wise, but that’s not it most are rusted out

Don’t have time to think about this much yet honestly, but when I get time I will get on the forum and say hi

I would start from scratch and have to make all new tooling and jigs

    Cheers Dale"

sounds like it maybe a dead duck :/. dose anyone make a header system that gets rid of that heavy tank of an exhaust? i have yoshimora pipes but the stock lower tends to be over weight and rust out from what i have seen.

Sudco made their own for a while, and they were FOR SURE the sweetest things ever to be made for the V4. Don't expect to ever find one because the cost was so high they quickly turned to private labeling Hindle systems. That's the same thing Dale Walker did from the get-go.

Hindle systems are very decent and I've designed one very similar with only slight tweaks. The problem isn't being able to make it, but rather making enough to make it cost effective. There might be a couple of people who are willing to pay $1000+ for a 4-1 but that's about it. I struggled with this about 12 years ago but finally realized it wouldn't be a good idea. Considering that it's taken this long to come back up I'm thinking that was a good decision.
