I was taking my riding test to get my motorcycle endorsement on Saturday when somebody told me They had just found a bolt where I was just parked. Is this part off my bike?

What year off bike is this? Doesn't look like a VFR part but I'm not familiar with all the gens.

I noticed the locking washer was out of its slot too, which my ignition thought was, this is not good. The nut is tight though.. And I know the PO had to install different spacers for the f2 CBR wheels to fit. So I'm wondering if this was done on purpose, for some reason. Or should I put it back in its correct position?? Here are some pics.

So it fell off with the nut in place ? Huh ?? :homer:

That's one of the 2 bolts securing the rear brake reaction rod. Hole on end for split pin is a clue.

Rear axle right side is clearly installed WRONG as a spacer is cockeyed, you're right. Appears that some woefully unskilled mechanic has been at work, and it shows. :confusion: Missing locknut, cockeyed axle spacer. It's dangerous !! Fix it right or take it to a shop for proper repair asap, and try not to use the rear brake !! :behindsofa:

Check axle alignment marks, then torque axle properly to about 75+ foot-pounds, and then check rear wheel rotation with the wheel off the ground for looseness or possible bearing noise.

I'm afraid... really afraid. Those last 2 shots of the swingarm and weld job on the brake carrier are seriously messed up. I agree with SM... time for the fine toothed comb.

Thanks Squirrel, I think I found it, but can you post a pic of where the bolt is suppose to go, exactly?

No damage was done, thankfully. I can't believe I rode 3 days with it like this.. And the caliper actually stayed in place, until today. Heres a pic of where its at now.

And heres a pic of where it USED to be.

    I just noticed that too.

Does anyone recognize what rear caliper this is? I'm not sure whether the caliper is stock, newer VFR, or CBR. I just found these notes written in my manual the PO gave me. It looks like a fair amount of work went into this build.. I don't think the F3 wheel is popular in this conversion, is it?

    Front brakes- fa-142 1990VFR
    Front wheel- F2 600CBR
    Rear wheel- F3 CBR600

My suggestion is to lobby the mods who make the decisions on what goes into the 2014 calendar to have a month reserved for ratbike. They might even shoot you a large economy size jug of liquid detergent.

This might even get you some responses on your "garage night" thing. Rough estimate on getting that puppy in tip-top shape is around 5K after buying a trailer to haul it around.

LOL! Liquid detergent?... IN. For my clothes, of course.. Not the rat bike. And this is exactly why I posted the "Garage Night" thread. Until then, there will be a looooot of questions rollin' through the ol "1st & 2nd gen" section. lol

Laundry detergent has anti-foamers. Best to use dish detergent on Dirty Gertie.. What is not a good idea is using liquid dish detergent in a washing machine. Another couple of cleaning products and methodology is hosing ol Gert down with WD40, letting it sit for a couple of days and then giving it a wash job. Concentrated GUNK is good stuff. NAPA has it.

Having been around the Seattle bike scene for some time, showing up at the various "bike" things with that VFR in that condition will not get you many invites to garages unless using it as a prop in an all air guitar garage band.

I got a white fly problem on one of my ficus shrubs, gona use regular dish soap in one of those chemical sprayers hooked up to a garden hose. We have a friend that used to have season tickets to the Sea-Hawks, he got rid of them because the team was dismal, he used to call them the "Stink-Hawks."

Some stuff you can't make up...
