Is it possible to remove the rear cylinder valve cover with the engine in the bike? Manual only says the engine needs to be removed to take the head off and makes no mention of the valve cover, but a local gen6 owner says the frame is in the way. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Or if someone could save me some time, what is under the four bolts on the underside of the valve cover?

It's a tight fit but yes it is absolutely possible to remove the rear cylinder valve cover with the engine in the frame.

You have to disconnect the coil stick wire harnesses, remove the coil sticks, disconnect the breather hose, remove the 4 valve cover bolts, and veeeeery carefully wiggle-waggle-woggle the valve cover until it's free.

The valve cover tends to hang up on the frame rails marked by the Red arrows in my pic. Just take your time and work slowly and it'll come out.

This is what the engine looks like with the rear valve cover removed.

And here's a parts breakdown pic of the valve covers.

That's only because she hasn't left the garage in over 4 1/2 years. :blue:

Trust me if I ever get her done she'll be plenty dirty from all the riding I'm planning on doing.
Got 4 1/2 years of catching up to do with my VFR. :whoo:

Same thing with gen 2. Subframe sides prevent easy removal, you just need to find the right angles after some tactical maneuvering.

Stosh, that original artpiece will be magazine-shot-ready soon as it gets finnished, by golly, long winters, no excuses. :party2:
