Picked up my first VFR!

My dad had an '06 for a while and I enjoyed it. I knew that I wouldn't be able to put up with a sportbike for my commute to class so I started looking for an older VFR in my price range. I found a '97 750 in really good shape with 20k miles for $2500 and this one with 50k miles for $2400. So I bought this one because it was located closer, for the fuel injection, and newer bike overall, not too worried about mileage with the Hondas.

I bought it from a girl who had it about 8 months and she was moving to her 2007 CBR600RR. I don't think she ever changed the oil but even me being new on a streetbike could tell that it was shifting crappy. I changed the oil now it shifts great! It has brand new Michelins and EBC pads, came with stock seat, corbin two-up with backrest, and a corbin solo with the glove compartment. And that Remus carbon slip-on, sounds good, I wish it was louder though.

I still need to do an air filter and replace the grips/bar-ends, but other than small stuff it's been a blast so far!

 

Great looking bike! The red accents really set the bike off !! I would suggest an EMGO branded aftermarket air filter to save a few bucks. It is identical to the the OEM unit and is a fraction of the price. Congrats on the new ride, I'm sure she'll give you many more years of pleasure.

A big thumbs up for adding pictures with your first post :thumbsup:. It looks like you have found a great value bike which with a bit of TLC will give you years of pleasure. I would however be tempted to consider adding some frame sliders to protect the fairings from a tip-over.

Very nice looking 5th gen you have there. The red rim stripes really add to the look of the bike with the rest of the red accents. All the aftermarket farkles (the red piping on the seat, the red rim stripes, the blacked out turn signals and tail light, the carbon exhaust can) are nicely color co-ordinated and make the bike look more sporty and in your face obnoxious. I agree with Jev, one of the nicest looking 5th gens I've seen to date.

So these have linked brakes, do you guys ever use the rear brake? It seems like I never touch it, is that ok?

 

Nice bike! The bar ends can be a pain to get off. At least they were on my 6th gen. Required a grinding wheel.
May want to look into the throttlemeister cruise control. It's a bar end/throttle lock.

Many here subscribe to the practice of don't touch the rear brake. I seldom use my rear brake due to linked brakes. About the only time I do use them is when I am coming to a hard stop on a basically straight line, or setting myself up for an aggressive corner, before the corner. Naturally you want to be off both brakes while in the corner.

If you choose to put a throttle miser on your bike, I would just cut the inner end of the grip. Handle grips are cheap. Scubalong spent a long time trying to file down the throttle miser to fit between the end of my grips and the switch assembly on the right handle bar. We just cut the inner most flange off the grip. It doesn't serve a great purpose other than making it look pretty up close.
