As Randy says, keep the painting down to the panels that need to be repaired. Don't paint the whole bike. I painted my whole 97 VFR due to crash damage and it required that much work. I do apologize if I made it sound as if you need to paint more than you do. Have the damaged panels repaired and painted. The body shop of choice will let you know what needs to be done to do the job properly.

Yes, thank you. It was right there, you were right, I could not miss that sticker.
No, I am not on a spending money spree, I just cant repair those fairings, they are scratched pretty bad. Trust me, they ca not get fixed, they are beyond repairing. Especially the upper cowl, it is "filed" on the edge, almost through.
They need to be replaced. Question is if I get primed ones and get them to the body shop or get OEM painted ones. The price will decide, once I compare prices from all the site you guys were so nice to give me.

Very wise and well said. This is exactly what happened. Another reason to repair it fast and get it over with. The less I see it the faster I will "heal":) Money is not an issue, I can afford it, I am an architect, my pride is more expensive that those fairings :)
Thank you very much for all your help.

Hey Aqua, while your checking sites for oem parts try motorcycle goodies.com, when I did my dumb dumb move I scratched up the clutch cover pretty badly and wanted to replace it. That site was the best price by far at the time. You can also order the paint from colorrite.com by the pint and take that to a shop and have them do the painting for you. After you find the best price for your fairings you might check with a few body shops and see what they say about repairing yours, you might be surprised. Maybe check with a local bike dealer and see if they recommend anyone. Keep us in the loop. Best of luck.
    John

Three years ago I rebuilt a low side on the 2000 RC51. I bought a tank, rear seat cowl and a subframe, plus other parts from Bike Bandit. I talked to them on the phone and negotiated a discount. They were extremely helpful. when the parts arrived all I did was bolt it back together. Everything comes pre painted. You have the money, do it right!

I came to that conclusion as well. I am not handy and dont master the skills and the knowledge to even try to improvise. All the respect for all those capable, but not me. I am the type that mechanics love. Drop the vehicles and pay the bill. :) I will follow your suggestion and get the pre-paint ones if I find them. If not I will take the primed ones and take them to a paint shop.
I have a lot of research in the weekend :)

Thank you all for all promptitude and the precious info. Most appreciated. You are a fine community indeed. I will keep you posted with the progress of fixing my VFR, and additional question, if you dont mind.
    Have a good weekend.

Do you know the difference between a 2008 VFR 800A and 800A-A?
Also, when I change the crankcase cover should I change the gasket too?

    Thank you

I thought that the 800A-A meant it had ABS.

    Hey John,

an update on my parts shopping.
I checked all the sites mentioned above, 5 or 6. The cheapest one was the one you suggested, the second one was partzilla.com. Bike Bandit and Honda Parts Nation were actually one of the most expensive one. even more than www.aviciouscycle.ca. As a matter of fact any parts outlet in Canada is more expensive that the ones abroad.

Delivery was very fast once they had everything, one part was out of stock. Good company to deal with, thank you again for your recommendation.

I purchased everything OEM, painted. Upper cowl, right side cowl, brake pedal, pillion bar, crankcase cover with gasket even the handlebar knob (they call it weight) while at it. All these were $935 ( 935 reasons to be more careful next time) :)

I am waiting for a good day in the garage for me and a handier friend to replace the damaged parts. I will post pictures when done.

Thanks a lot to all of you with directions and suggestion.

A (temporary) alternative to painting is dipping. The latest post is a blue CBR which is just beautiful.

Glad to hear that you got the parts all sorted out Aqua. Even better to hear that there is yet another place to get parts for the bike that is cheaper still than the others that have been mentioned. Might have to check them out myself, for Just-In-Case moments.

Your baby should be back up and running in no time. Now you get to learn about the other side of being a VFR owner. The love and hate portion about learning how the bike comes apart and goes back together. Comes in handy though, as next time you want to do something, like adding a farkle of some sort, you'll know how to take things off. Hope things go quick and easy.

Checked the prices on partszilla.com for a rear turn signal for my wife's 96 VFR750 that I uuuuuuhh, well, cracked a chuck off while polishing it (dohhh) and though the turn signals were the same price as Honda Parts Nation for example, there were a few other parts that were much cheaper. I think I may actually end up buying the turn signal from my local Honda dealer though. By the time I add in shipping costs from the US to Canada it actually winds up costing less to purchase direct from Honda (go figure). If I order the signal from Honda there is no shipping cost added to the price and no charge from the Canada Customs department for handling the package. Would definitely be a good place to go to get some of the more expensive items though, like fairing parts.

Wouldn't have been cheaper to have put sliders on in the first place- I won't ride my bike again without sliders-I dropped the bike ,but my foot was the slider-at all most zero speed-the r+ g sliders would have saved a pain in my foot too:gorilla:

I looked at sliders. I always put them on, three bikes before, they all had them. Unfortunately I didnt find any reliable no-cut sliders. You have to cut a hole through the coolant container to install them. That did not sound appealing. What do you guys have?

Yes, I will definitely post pictures when done. I will also install HID now that I have to remove the front cowl. I already purchased them. Can wait to put them on!

The R+G sliders I just got-come with a custom coolant bottle that will fit with the sliders on-your talking about 1.1 or 28 mm hole in the fairing, I don't think the no-cut sliders work well especially at any speed.:drum::spider:

Partszilla was the second cheapest actually. see below.
We, in south Ontario, have a different way to beat the shipping to Canada which is very expensive. Or non existent. Some companies do not ship to Canada. Like Amazon.com, electronics and car/motorcycle parts are not shipped to Canada. When most of the parts store you buy on line with an US address, even tires and rims do not charge shipping to US.
Therefore when we order stuff we use some sites like http://myusaddress.ca/ (there are a few of them around) where you get your stuff delivered and stored in a warehouse for a few days for a few dollars only. You only have to drive and get it. Our case is easy, Toronto is only 1n hour away from Buffalo NY. And we fill up the gas tank while there too, cheaper gas on the other side.
You could also try that, you are very close to the border.
    good luck. :)
